Well its been a while since Ive done stuff to my 4runner and i figured out whats next. I want to install the tall 99 coils on my 4runner for a small amount of lift. I got a quote from my mechanic and for parts and labor, i would get charged 640 bucks. i would like to get a nice lift kit but i cant justify the money and use for it where i live. seems like a decent price but wanted to check with you guys and see what you think.

rear is pretty easy job to swap the coils out just unbolt the shocks on the bottom and track bar then raise truck up enough so u can just pull the springs out .... now the front is not that bad just read this http://www.4rnr.net/suspension.html

i pretty much know enough to get by but doing something like this, i dont exactly feel comfortable yet. dont wanna screw something up cause this is my daily driver. that's why i got a quote to see how much it would run me

its really not that hard to do but its your money do what ever makes you feel comfortable

i just told someone that i would do basically the same thing for around half of that.

Honestly the price seems in line with what most dealers would charge. If you could find someone independant (such as Stick Figure above) that doesn't have the overhead that a dealer does they won't charge you $80/hour in labor.

Also, if you don't feel comfortable then you should take it somewhere. But what you are going to get from a lot of people on here is that the price is high. Personally I would never pay that, but I've done half a dozen suspensions so I had no problem installing my lift myself.

thanks fro the input guys, ive been getting the its easy to do speech but i havent really dealt with suspension so i dont know what to expect. but any ways i havent made a final decision so i dont know what im gonna do now. just wanted to check with you guys to see what your opinions were on the price

4 springs and no new shocks?

for four springs and the labor to change them out that is a fair price. NOT a great price but a fair one.

Springs are roughly $70 each from Old Man Emu-not sure what price is for tall 99 springs-probably about the same through trdparts4u.com

So that is $280 in parts alone.

Seems to me you might as well have him do the shocks while at it-would not add that much labor.

But of course the total cost would rise....

thanks Ron, think I'm just gonna find some cheap tall coils for the rear to raise it a bit. i just wanted a little lift but guess there is no good way of doing it without being cheap. if i do get some coils, hopefully ill get the stance i want with the rear end up higher than the front.

that price is pretty close to a 3" full suspension lift at Swab, its called high country or somethin i duno, but ya im in the same boat as you, im lookin to get a little bit of a lift cause my struts are about done. so ya hopully some good ideas come about. oh i personally think its better for a shop to do all major things like that. its worth the extra cash to get a guantee and if something gies wrong your not paying more to get it fixed. im pretty savey when it comes to most mechamic things but ya i guess its the ocd in me lol!

I'd just get the parts from the site that Ron Helmuth listed. For shocks and coils, I think you're at ~$700 for a KILLER lift and a much better ride. Don't spend any money on cheap stuff that you'll soon have to replace and more importantly, will give you a choppy ride.

My old 4Runner was the first vehicle I've ever done suspension work on. I have to tell you that it was straight forward and pretty easy. The hardest part was trying to screw around with unbolting the rear shock. I spent 1.5 hours trying to get it undone, but in the end, just sawzall'ed it off in about 30 seconds. For the front, just take it off (3 nuts up top, one bolt below) and take your new springs/shocks to a local suspension place to have them mount the springs to the shocks. Then basically just install the 3 nuts and 1 bolt. Easy as pie.

You could see if one of the local members can help.

guess you guys are right. for the price i got quoted, i could get a nice set up. looks like i have some homework to do on what set up i want. like i said before, i dont go off raoding but if i got the oppurtunity i would. i dont wanna go with a crazy lift, somewhat of a 2 inch lift would be fine for me. but then im gonna want bigger tires and go down another road lol.

Yeah, for a 2" lift, I'd go with 881/906 springs from OME (might even settle a little under 2"). Good luck.

do i need anything like a diff drop or something. im kinda new to the concept of lifting my 4runner. also will the stock shocks work? not to long ago i replaced my rear shocks with some ranchos. everything else is still stock.

As I understand it you don't need a diff drop unless you to 2.5"-3" range. Can't hurt though.

If you can afford it, definitely get new shocks. It would be double labor if you have to do this again when the stockers blow. Plus, Ranchos suck. You will appreciate how well the OME's ride. The OME shocks and coils are made to work together.

Do it once, do it right.

thanks guys, might as well do the entire suspension while I'm at it. its gonna be a pretty penny so ill have to play around with some prices and save up and buy when i'm ready.
