Price for 1989 4Runner

I have recently come across a 1989 4Runner with about 138,00 miles. It is in excellent and runs fine. Some exterior work could improve it but it still looks sharp with minimal rust and hardly any paint chips. The seller wants 2,800 firm for it. In ya'lls opinion, is that a fair price.

Im not sure you you're going to get many replies to this unless someone in your area comes across it because the prices may vary from state to state and coast to coast.

Some good advice I've read on the subject when I was searching for my 4runner is that it doesnt matter what the price you pay is compared to how much someone else payed for theirs, as long as you feel you bought the vehicle you wanted for a price you could afford and you are happy with it.

So if you like the 4runner and its in good shape and you can afford to pay $2800 for it then I'd say its a good deal because you'll be happy with it.

of course this doesnt apply if the seller is completely ripping you off but if that 4Runner is in really good shape and runs well then I'd say $2800 is an alright price. In my area it would be anyways, especially if its not all rusty.

2800 seems at bit steep in todays market with that mnay miles. If it is a v6, you'll get crappy mileage with no power. V^'s have head gasket issues. Has it been repainted? check for frame issues behind the main passenger compartment. Check the rear taigate, does the rear window work. It should be in great shape for a vehicle that 20 years old.

I'll try to get a picture up soon but there is no rust, original paint and window works. The current owners have taken perfect care of it since they got it from a family member of theirs. They say that someone had it than it sat and then they got it. From there they put a bunch of money in it and got it working good. What suprised me was that it dosent leak. Its a 4 Cyl so it should get decent milage. The interior is also almost spotless with a few minor holes in some seats. Radio and cassest deck work fine. All lights work. Brakes are responsive and make no noise. All in all its a great car but I checked the Blue Book value and it says for a car in "Good" quality its only around 2K and "Excellent" its 2,400. He is firm on his price but paying that much for a almost 20 year old car scares me away.

Looks nice, the price seemed a little high but the mileage is low.
As long as you like it that's all that matters.

It is an SR5, or at least it has the stripes, and it looks to be clean. That last pic of the rear quarter panel shows rust, and if it has rust there, its probably on the other side as well.
I bought my 89 SR5 with all power options and v6 for about that much in 2001, but it had a dent on the rear quarter panel and rust spots like yours on the other. My plan was to cut the rust out and put Bushwacker flares over it, but I later opted to have the body work done.
My 89 had 135k on it in 2001.

If you want this truck, take $2600 to the guy's house. Walk around the truck and show him what you are concerned about. Don't insult him, but be honest. Point out the rust. Take off the panel from the inside and you can see the rust spreading. Offer him $2300, and see the response. He'll probably say no, so then look it over a bit more.
Before you leave, say " OK, you want $2800, and I want to pay $2300, can we meet somewhere in between, like $2500?"
He'll either say yeah, or say "$2600" and then you just counter with $2550, or say "yes, $2600, but with a full tank of gas" or "yes, $2600, but you buy the beer" etc...
It's a nice truck with very low miles for the year.

I live in Virginia and I paid $3000 for an '88 in nearly identical condition. The only difference is mine had 60,000 less miles. About $500 over Blue Book, but well worth it to me.

I wanted to add that you will want to lose those seats ASAP. Mine had those in there, and I swapped some SR5 buckets out of a 94 into it. So much nicer..but worry about getting the truck first.
