Price on a 2000 4runner.. A little steep?

I was a day late on buying a 2001 limited from a local dealer but recently found a MINT 2000 sr5 sport for an asking price of 12,999. Perfect body, no rust , interior immaculate! Take the plunge or are they asking a tad too much?

I don't know where you are and you didn't say mileage, but it's probably about $5K too high, unless it's less than 100K miles, then it's only $4K too high. I bought a near-mint (as mint as it can be for 10 years old), one-owner, dealer maintained (with full service records and 3000 mile oil changes), 2002 Limited with 144K miles for $8K from a dealer 3 months ago.

There are much better deals around than $13K for a 2000.

Last year my girlfriend bought a 2000 4runner SR5 with 5-speed, 67K miles, with ZERO rust. It was a one owner vehicle from California. She got it for $9800 OTD. They had it listed for around $12000 if I recall correctly, so you definitely have a lot of wiggle room with that price. Check my build thread and read the story if you'd like.

Looks nice in that picture but even with the low miles, it's too high. Honestly, buy a higher mileage one. At 59K all your doing is buying one that will need a bunch of major maintenance shortly. Buy one with more miles, for less money, that already has it all done.

I'm not gonna lie If I walked out and saw my truck stolen or crushed beyond repair etc, I would probably pay that to replace mine.

As for 59k needing more maintenance than the higher mileage after the maintenance is done, I disagree. The few things that get replaced at 90k ish is NOTHING compared to the 30k less mileage on things like bushings, seals, bearings and other items that wear out over time.

12,999 does seem kind of steep. You can probably find a 2003-2005 4th gen in the 75-100k mile range for that price. Whats funny is that if this was a Tacoma double cab with the same mileage and year, the dealer would probably want close to 20 for it. Those trucks are super overpriced.

If you're looking for an immaculate unused 4Runner, I think that price is fair-ish. I honestly would probably pay that much if it was exactly what I wanted, and that right there is pretty darn close. If it had a locker Id do it in a heartbeat actually... Id be more happy paying $11 for it but that thing looks like possibly one of the nicest 4Runners I've seen. More pix

It only takes like 2-3 to get a 60-70k mi truck to 110-120k miles which is where the $6k-$8k trucks generally sit, so why someone would pay 1.5-2x more for a truck that in 2 years will need $1500 worth of maintance at a minimum is beyond me.

Thats the same thought Ive had about the lower mileage 4runners. In the end a 3rd gen with with 150k miles for $7K is a much better deal than one with 50k miles for say $12k.

I think it would be awesome to have a 3rd gen with really low miles. I mean sure that would be my preference. But for that price you could get a 4th gen with around 100k miles and have an 8 cylinder that's newer and has more options and more overall capabilities. And there are too many other good options out there for that price to spend it on a 3rd gen.

OP, prices vary by geographical location. Ever notice how KBB and NADA make you put in your zip? ... probably a reason for that.

100k less miles has a lot less engine wear if it was well cared for but I would pay $10k for it personally since I see more and more tired 3rd gens every year and that one looks more fresh than some of the 5-6 year old 4th gens I see around.

Even if you overpay for it a little bit with that low of miles you'll always find another buyer that will overpay for it too especially if it's in Colorado.

In Colorado, it would probably sell for close to that price. It depends where you live, how long you will keep the truck, and is it exactly what you want. If you are going to highly modify it, then you might want to look for one with more miles and cheaper. It looks like a really nice truck. Good luck on your quest.
