Price to Pay/Pros and Cons of Buying this 4Runner

Real world numbers on the ecoboost aren't that great either. And you're comparing a force inducted v6 vs N/A v8. When you're not WOT or part throttle boosting a turbo charged engine will always perform better. There was times when my 2.0TFSI could crank out 39mpg and other times it could only achieve 19mpg. Forced induction changes the game so much.

When towing, there is little difference between the EcoBoost and the 5.0. But when not towing and driven gently, the EcoBoost seems to do better.

Yes, forced induction does change the game, for the better. I hope Toyota follows suit in the 6th gen. I do like my 4Runner, but when I replace it I hope I can find a truck that gets significantly better mileage.

If the 6th gen 4runner has a turbo, I'll eat my hat. Not that I'm against the idea I just can't see it happening.

You are probably correct. Ford and Toyota have announced a partnership around light truck hybrid systems. So I suspect that if Toyota does aim to improve the fuel economy of the 6th gen, that it will be a hybrid system.

Personally, I'd prefer a forced-injection solution, preferably diesel -- but I haven't been off my meds long enough to expect to see a turbodiesel 6th gen.
