Prices paid on a TE recently?

Hey guys,

After driving around in a TE as a rental for a week, I am going in today to see what prices I can get one for. I had the TE with NAV & KDSS but they have another on the lot without for $36K. What have others been paying over invoice? Edmunds is saying invoice is about $33,300. I am hoping to offer them no more than $34k, sound reasonable or could I do better?

On a side note, how does the "drive & handling on road" compare by not having KDSS? I thought the rental I had handled very well with little body roll and I hope the one without it is very similar.....thoughts?

I got a TE without KDSS and Nav and I paid $500 below MSRP and thought that was a good deal considering their limited availability. I did not see invoice on it. I probably overpaid because of the timeframe in which I needed it but I have heard of a few going for OVER MSRP so I think my price was fair.

The handling is actually quite good. That said, if you've been driving one with KDSS, you may notice the difference. The larger sway bar on the KDSS version probably does a lot to increase road feel and handling.

I chose not to spend the money on the KDSS/Nav package, mostly because I think factory Nav systems are ridiculously overpriced and they used to be quirky but I hear that has changed.

But, if the KDSS were available separate, it seems fairly priced and I would have paid for that.

:iagree: I got $800 off but no doubt took it in the cheeks on the trade..it was NOT one of my best attempts at the dealer..eyes kinda glazed over after I saw it.....:ybrick:


Ain't looking back...I love it and can't wait to get in it everyday and drive it.

I just bought a 2010 4Runner Trail Edition Black with KDSS and NAV and Remote start, Basically loaded. The MSRP was just over $41K, I paid $38,600. I really love this truck. and I traded in my 2008 FJ with I got $2000 more than I owed on it. I drove it for one year and it was worth 2K more than what I owed. Gotta love Toyota...... Grand total $36,600 plus tax..........

got $2000 off MSRP...

bought a loaded metalic gray limited with nav, leather, and remote start... etc last weekend.

sticker was 42569 got it for 2000 off...the salesman was awsome.

Haven't taken delivery yet, but am under contract for a Trail model with nav & KDSS for $1,700 under MSRP, and they threw in the running boards & a cargo mat, so that probably works out to $2,200 under MSRP. It was $39,200 + tax & tag.

They are definitely difficult to find - best bet is to find a large dealer with multiple stores.

I was offered a TE by my local dealer for $500 over invoice but he couldn't get one. I ended up paying $1000 over invoice for the one I wanted in stock at another dealer-red, with KDSS/Navi, which was more than I usually would have paid, but I didn't want to wait. Actual invoice was $38, 020. MSRP was $41,123.00.

Invoice is around $38,020, so you got a very good deal at $600 over.

Well I went to make the offer after driving the TE w/o NAV yesterday and the sales GM was on vacation

I met up with the salesman who helped me the last time I was in and he is getting me a price to add heated seats to the TE fabric seats He claims they have done this before and another guy came over and said they think they can utilize the same factory locations for the switches (which are now empty). They are figuring about $300 which is better than spending $1500 for both leather and heated seats. I could have lived without, but the wife insisted

He also talked with another sales manager while we were there and said my offer of $34K plus cost of the heated seats seems fair considering my history with this dealer......I should know by Wednesday!!!!!!

On a side note, the one concern I have with the TE is the short mudflaps and no running boards meaning more rock chips along the bottom of the doors. Has anyone done anything to prevent this? Maybe add longer flaps to the stock ones, or some tough(not cheesy) looking running boards?

I just bought new Firestone Destination A/T tires(offroad/all terrain) for my 2006 4R and if I do make the purchase of the TE this week, has anyone tried to swap these for the 2010's tires? My Firestones probably have 3K on them and maybe the dealer would let me throw the crappy stock Bridgestone Duelers on the 2006 while I put my Firestones on the 2010? I believe the tire sizes are identical from a 2006 SE and the 2010 TE(265 70 R17).

Thoughts?

Why did you trade in the FJ? I was hoping the new 4R would be have taken more ques from the FJ and gone more utilitarian in looks and materials.

The stock 2006 Sport tire size is 265/65/17, but you might have 265/70/17's, just check the sidewall. 265/70/17 is the stock 2010 Trail tire size.

I think they should do it. Press for it and make it seem like it would be a deal breaker. Maybe split the mounting cost?

so you decided the lack of a Torsen wasn't a dealbreaker for you after all, eh?

sounds like a fair deal to me, fwiw. the TE still seems to be a bit rare, so if you're even in the neighborhood of invoice price i would think you're doing well.

I will definitely miss the Torsen center diff here in WI when the roads go from slippery to dry and back again, but I just cannot afford the $40K limited to get it. I will just spend some time with the wife in a snow covered field teaching her how to engage the 4Wd and when to.

I feel that $34k for a TE is a good deal if it happens...I will know by Wed. I may end up adding heated seats to the cloth also, the dealer said its possible, yeah!

Out of curiosity, how accurate is Edmunds invoice price? It lists the TE without nav & KDSS at around $33,300. I want to know the facts so when I go in Wednesday, I have as much negotiating power as possible

small update,

I called around and spoke with several other local dealers today just to get an idea if my offer price is fair. Here is what I found - my best offer by just emailing and one call is $33932 for the 2010 Trail ($36500 MSRP). They can add heated seats for $450. So when the GM gets back tomorrow from my normal dealer, I will offer $34300 for everything and hope it flies
