Sorry I don't understand - are you saying that there is some legal reason that the front part of these racks have to be drilled down to the roof? Or just that CBI can't change the design as they are only the reseller?

I do not know. The specifics weren't mentioned.
Scott said that CBI will not be changing the design and CBI later confirmed that it wouldn't be changed.

Having a no drill option for the front isn't necessarily changing the design of the rack. Just the installation. So could happen as I see it.

Zach said on TW that a price increase isn't out of the realm of possibility as CBI now has product rights and can do whatever they want with the price. Or something like that, I'd have to find the post again.
Just called CBI to inquire if they had any info on when the equipment mounting plate Zach teased a few months back on IG. As to be expected, new product development is not even on the radar for at least several months now..... I really want that plate!

For what it's worth, I tried yesterday to prototype two plates. I taped the edges with 2 layers of electrical tape and forced them between the crossbars. They were not together, one was near the sunroof, the other was one section from the back. They were undrilled and quiet when I knocked on them. At 60mph they started to buffet in the wind.
I've looked at his IG photos a bunch of times trying to figure out if there is rhyme or reason to the strange shaped cutouts near the ends. I'm not sure if it will keep it from happening.
Instead I turned the panels 90 degrees and adjusted my bars to fit them.
Based on all the problems my buddy has had getting awning brackets from Zach, I'm not sure if put much faith in the current state or design. Three months of getting brackets and not one fit! I'd like to have some too, but I don't want to spend a bunch of cash to make the rack noisy. We can keep our fingers crossed that CBI can move these ideas forward.

Sounds like the lead times around 12+ weeks. Plus they are/were short on crossbars due to the supplier so I'm not sure if that'll add to lead times or if they got that corrected.
