Probably a stupid question

As far as I know, there is no TRD CAI for the v8, but there is one for the v6. Otherwise, people with 4th gens just switch back for smog. A lot of people find, however, that CAI really don't do anything at all except look kinda neat and sound good at high revs.

I have seen trd cai for the v6 but it states only for 2010 and newer 4runners. Also states CARB aproved but no sticker would have go through dealer. Would 2010 air intake match up without modifying?

they definitely make it for 03-09

TRD - Part Detail

TRD website says its discontinued but you can find them at a lot of dealership part websites or even ebay/amazon

As long as it has a CARB Sticker is okay to install in California, but typically the process to get a CARB sticker is more or less "Pay the State Extra to let them say its okay" and many companies don't feel its worth their time to pay a ridiculously expensive tax to sell a product in 1 more state when they have 49 others to choose from.

There is no legal cai for the 4th gen in California, I always just reinstall the stock. During the smog checks. What's nice is it is really easy to swap back and forth for the cai. If this is a problem for you, leave it stock or use a better filter.

It helps people in the future if you make the thread title something that relates to the topic. No one will be searching for "probably a stupid question" however someone else may be looking for legal CAI's in Cali. Also people that may know something may over look the tread with such a pointless title.

Duly noted Nathana92, still new to this forum world.. Swaping back an forth acasionally isn't a problem riceandpho. I didn't know if three was a legit cai. Thanks for everyone's help. Time to break out the wallet..

Thanks just trying to make the forum a better/more useful place. Didn't mean to come off rude.

Cali intake

Not legal in CA. I sell parts for a living and Toyota does not have a Smog legal intake system (deletes a critical smog component on the intake system). Cannot even be sold in CA. Send to your buddy in AZ or another non-smog nazi state and pay the extra shipping to your place. Or buy used (at your own risk).

the thing is, you can have it installed, it just during the smog check, they check for a carb sticker, so it automatically fail, once you have the intake installed and removed a few times, its easy to swap. its easy to change period.

Lived in CA my whole life and never heard anything about failing because of an aftermarket intake. Owned several cars with CAI and never had an issue.
