Problem with Thigh support on 06 limited

Hey guys,

I just leased an 06 V8 limited and am having issues with this. I would first like to say that I am 6'4". I did sit in the vehicle and test drive it before I leased it, and it seemed fine. I now noticed that my right leg rests against the center console, and also leans into any container in my cup holder. Has anyone experienced this? And if so, did you just get use to it or did you find a solution? I was thinking of maybe gluieing a some sort of padding on the left side of the center console where my leg rests. This would not only feel much nicer on my shin, but would also prevent my leg from leaning on my darn coffee :) Any thoughts?

Although I am only 5'11", I feel your pain. I found myself to have the same problem especially since we men like to have our, 'boys', breath on long trips. I avoided coffee pants by placing my drink in the opposite holder closest to the passenger seat. It also made for easier access to the drink too. Just a thought. I don't think that foam would look too good there but to each their own. Congrats on the lease!

A family member purchased an 04 Tacoma over the 05 for the exact reason. They liked everything about the 05, but could not get comfortable. The last generation Tacomas have a smaller/lower center console. The new Tacomas are similar to 4Runners.

The center console is much different in my GX than my 4Runner too.

I'm 6'3 and I feel your pain. I've had mine for over a year but I do remember right after I first got it home I felt cramped... I guess I've just gotten used to it now. I used to really feel the lower headroom with the sunroof, but I have learned to deal with that too.

I guess during the excitement of the test drive I didn't notice anything negative about my 4Runner.
 
I am 100% in agreement with you guys! I love everything about my 4Runner except these freaking S-E-A-T-S ! They have the most uncomfortable, tightly conformed seating pad in an oversized crawl space. I took a 2000 mile trip back to the southeast last summer and my back/arse ached. As a matter of fact, I get a pain in my lower back and buttock area if I drive in the Runner too long now. I get these aches no matter how much in vain I try adjusting the seat tilt/height, lumbar air support, forward/rear spacing or the dial-a- postion thigh adjustor. The seat design is a FAILURE....it was made for little, bitty folks. I'd rather have a more flat seating surface (such as in the Ford, Dodge, or Chevy trucks) than the Euro type. This will be the MAIN reason for me to move up to a larger size ('08 Sequoia) or ('07/08 Tundra) within the next two years.

I don't believe I'd ever buy another truck with flat floor seating. I am only 5' 8"-175 lbs and the truck begins to get too small after about 500 miles!

The above statement is just MY opinion and does not necessarily reflect the opinions of others present in this forum nor the forum's second, third, fourth party afflilates!
 
The seats in the 4Runner sit far too low on the floor!

That almost stopped me from buying my 4Runner. I'm tall and I have a 34-inch inseam, so when I sit in my 4Runner, my thighs are not even touching the seats, even with the seat cushion fully raised in the front. Not good at all.

I decided to create a bracket to lift the two front "legs" of the seats about two inches off the floor. This made the seats 1000 times more comfortable. Now I have support under my thighs, and the seats are comfortable for an 8 hour drive (the longest drive I've taken in my 4Runner to date).
 
This was one of the big reasons I traded in a 2nd Gen 4Runner 10 years ago!
I think it's improved considerably in the 4th Gen, but you're right - there's still more than can be done.

Do you have the power leather seats? Does that bracket interfere with the other power adjustments or heating?

The brackets will work on the powered seat or the standard seat. The mounting is the same.

All adjustments work just fine without any issues. I simply lifted the front of seat off the floor to give me more support under my thighs.

Yeah but how tall are you? I have a feeling if I do that (I'm 6'4"), my head would hit the ceiling.

No, the mod doesn't put your head any closer to the ceiling!! I only raised the front legs of the seats, not the rears. The only difference is that the front edge of the seats is up high enough to support under my thighs. Without the modified brackets, I'm in the same exact position, expect for the fact that I can put my hand in the space between the seat cushion and the bottom of my thighs. My ass is still in the same exact place as before, so my head isn't any higher.

I'm 6'1" and I don't have any problem with head room.

I can snap a few pics this weekend and post them for you. The brackets (really a spacer that fills the space between the floor and the stock bracket) were meant to be temporary, so they are not the greatest looking thing, but they worked so well that I never replaced them with a better looking set.

If I ever get a chance to make a nicer set, I'll make an extra set for you to try out. I'm telling you that they made all the difference in the world in the comfort of the seats. I hate the way the seats are so damn low to the floor, but the modified brackets complete solves the problem and makes the seats so much more comfortable.

Anyone who is tall or has long legs would appreciate the spacer brackets

Wow man that would be great. I really appreciate the pics. I mean, I can see how i can get use to it, but if this whole seat issue was non existent, then I would be 150% happier with the truck.
 
I found a fellow on the internet who has done a seat lift adjustment to his 3rd gen Runner. I have attached an image showing the 1" polyurtherene spacer insert. His link about the seat lift procedure is here: http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/index.shtml just scroll down about 3/4 of the page to find information. He is even selling this kit for about $10 through paypal.

I may try to find something like this at Home depot, Lowe's, or a local hardware store. Be careful when ordering this kit as I am not sure the 3rd gen's 10mm bolts will fit or be long enough for our 4th generation seat brackets. Good luck if you try this method and please let the board know how this mod come out.

Hey forty four, is that similar to what you did? I would think the bolts would need to be longer.
