Hey guys. Not sure what's going on but I have a 97 5speed and if I'm in a high gear like 4 or 5 going only about 30or a little more and I floor it te engine will slowly rev up and then seems to slip out and rev all the way up to red line. Then when I let off the gas it just goes back to normal. Is there something wrong or does it just do that?

I only know mechanics in San Diego and Orange County, sorry.

Try to find a independent Toyota mechanic, not a Midas or Pep Boys shops.

Make sure they use real OEM parts, even if you have to order them yourselves and bring them in.

If you decide to do it yourself, check rockauto.com. Remember that they always honor a 5% discount.

Personally I don't see the need for an oem clutch. I know a lot of parts we use should be oem, but as far as the friction disc/pressure plate/pilot bearing combo goes, I don't see a difference. Just follow proper break in procedure.

Also try not to slip the clutch if you can help it. You don't want to heat up the flywheel and develop hard spots in it or you'll either have to get it machined or replaced.

For the record... I bought a $90 clutch kit from them as closeout deal for my 626. I run about 320wtq on that engine (torque at the wheels) and so far a year in its OK... though I know its already getting there. stock torque was only like 190tq.
