Problem with transmission?

First of all I have a 2001 4Runner. Recently when I get to a point where I can take my foot off the gas and coast down a hill, it seems like it starts to ride rough, almost as if i were to put it into 2 or L, but i am leaving it in D. Does anyone have any suggestions what could be going wrong?

Are the revs increasing, indicating a downshift, or are you just getting a vibration?

Anytime you have a tranny issue, check the fluid level and check for a burnt odor. Have you been doing a drain and fill at regular intervals?

Check the driveshaft for binding. Is this a 4wd? If so there are grease fittings that are supposed to get lube at regular intervals. Do you get any clunking when shifting back and forth between reverse and drive with your foot on the brake?

the revs are not increasing, just some vibration. there is somewhat of a clunking noise while shifting between reverse and drive.
