Problems with an RS3000 System

My mother-in-law has a 98 4Runner Limited with the RS3000 system installed. However, the system is no longer functional and the stealership says the "brain" box on the system needs to be replaced.

Personally, from my research, installing a Viper/Hornet Keyless System or Alarm is a much better value than replacing the Toyo part.

So my question is.... to disable the RS3000 system, do I need to do anything else other than just unplugging the box under the seat?

Right now, the system malfuntions on her on a regular basis so it needs to go either way.

Thanks for the help!

The RS3000 also comes with a special wiring harness that allows it to tap into several functions, like the door locks, the ignition, and the gear shift selector. Because it's factory, there is no cutting involved - it has mating plugs for whatever it has to connect to.

If everything on the truck operates normally just by unplugging the box, then you should be OK. I'd bet you won't get that lucky, though. If something quits working, you'll also have to remove that wiring harness and restore the original connections.

Here's a helpful page about the RS3000 that's specific to 4Runners. The PDF with the installation instructions will show you more about this wiring harness.
