Problems With the 5th Gen?

Alright,
Lately I have read a bunch of threads on topics that include "I read/heard that there are problems with X component" and, I don't know about you guys, but I have read a LOT about the 4Runner here and I have no clue where these guys are coming from.

In the past week there have been threads about KDSS, wheel bearings and sunroofs from members and their problem. I'm sure they have a problem but some of these threads preface their remarks with "I heard this is common" or "I read about all the issues."

So, in response, and also so we will have some good data, I am going to start a series of simple polls. These are the initial topics:

KDSS
Wheel Bearings
Sunroofs
Seats
4Runner Lean

The format will be this:

Example - Have you had problems with "X" component on a 5th gen 4Runner.

This is not the most scientific way to gather data but at least we will have SOME data to refer back to later.

Any other topics that you wonder if the failure rate is high? Let me know and I will add them. I am actually curious myself on some of these issues.

Love everything about my 4Runner except.......it is the squeakiest vehicle I have owned. I had to install rubber washers at the drivers side wheel well, electrical tape the rear hatch latch and am still searching for a solution to a squeak near the drivers side windshield and dash. Other those items a very solid and reliable vehicle!!

Just wait until you do a bunch of suspension mods! I have a virtual choir. I have even started to interpret some of the squeaks and I found out it is actually a whole language not dissimilar to Klingon. I feed it all the right foods like grease and T9, but at the end of the day, I kinda like her chatter. It grows on you. Now... the stupid exhaust vibration... one of these days I'm going to fix it!

Perhaps one on the HVAC blower being weak sauce, er failing altogether?

Entune is a tough one to tackle due to all the different personal devices involved.

I think you're going to have to delete a lot of BS Greg, to get anything meaningful ... at least that's how it looks so far.

Would be nice to have one asking about door lock actuator issues. Now have had 2 go out on my 2015 TEP w/ 32k. Had 1 go out on my old 2006 SR5.

I would like to see one on the front diff groaning/grinding noise that goes away in 4wd.

Sorry to mess up the thread further off topic, but I can't let another T4R driver suffer in, um, not silence.

Edited to add: ha--didn't realize the poster's name here. Apparently what worked for me did not work for you!

Only issues to date with mine have been the stereo freezing up and restarting and the bottom rear seat material kept coming unclipped. Both issues have been resolved though.

Second the not enough (rear) cupholders. Install a fifth person and he's SOL.
Also not enough power points. I have an extension cord run from my center console 110v outlet out to the back seats so the kids will have power when traveling.
My wife likes to use the transfer case shift lever boot as a storage spot and it vibrates like crazy.
The oil filter is a PITA to change. What's wrong with the old-style self-contained units?
Plastic bumper trim hangs down too low limiting approach angles, but I'm slowly taking care of that by using random rocks to knock pieces off.


But as for actual legit problems where things have broken or malfunctioned? One. One rear door strut blew out at about 40k miles. Easy to replace.

A little over 60k miles on the odometer, and only the one (minor) problem. The dealer did a hard-sell on an extended warranty, and ultimately I only bought it because it had a buy-back clause. If I kept all the paperwork and jumped through a few hoops I could get my money back. I got my money back.


And now that I've typed that I'm going to arrive at home to find my 4Runner has collapsed into a pile of broken parts. WHY did you start this thread?
