Production Numbers

Limited1996

New member
After looking at my information sticker today I got to wondering about these production numbers. Mine says number 111 and some research says that just over 99k where sold in the US in 1996. Does anyone else have any information or want to share their photos? I wonder if this means I have the 111th produced 3rd gen 4runner in the US market or the 111th of this color or trim package.. has anyone else has these questions?

Great question. Out of the two you proposed I’d lean towards it meaning no. 111 in that specific spec listed above it on the tag.

I checked mine and it’s no 591.

I suppose it could also be a count from some arbitrary date/time that means more to Toyota than anyone else.

"I’d lean towards it meaning no. 111 in that specific spec listed."

That what I'm thinking also, my 96 - 01/96 #531, my 01 - 11/00 #561.
New model years start in August of previous year. 01/96 believe more than 531 Runners manufactured in time span,
11/00 at 561 millenium silver/oak trim 4 months of production believe the same, I'm guessing.

I'm guessing since they where only allowed to ship a certain amount of vehicles to the American market, and market demand is always a gamble that they needed to keep track of how many USDM vehicles where made for each production run. So since they new the USA would only accept a certain number they new how many to make, and after 1996 they had a better idea of what market demand was and which specs/model was in demand and made 2wd, 4x4 sr5, and Limiteds. Canada got a few variences like washer fluid reservoir low light, but I assume everything that went to North American market followed the production number. The Tahara Plant is the most advanced car manufacturer in the world so I'm sure this also determined problems in production and Q/C like the TSB for fuel level issues that should have been a recall.

Without more info, I'd guess that is a 'number' for the sticker - meaning that is sticker version "111"

Your production number is the last 5 of your VIN, but that is just the sequential number of your chassis code (VZN185L-GKPZKA in your case) and it is a bit of a challenge to tell how that compares to all of the 4Runners produced that year, since there are a number of chassis codes...

Here's my '99 2WD:

(so, it is likely the #115,925 V6 2WD build for the '99 model year - it is a 'late 99' unit)
