Programming Instructions for keyless entry remote?

That's the problem, I couldn't find a part# for the fob or anything that suggested FCC ID... I'm beginning to think that it didn't come with one. Might have to go aftermarket.

I’m pretty confident that the part number I recommended is the one for your T4R. I also wasn’t 100% sure when I bought mine, but without being able to find any more information, you pay $80 for it and there’s a pretty good chance it’s the right one, but in the end that’s your call. If not you can always try and sell it. I’d also be curious to see if anyone else has any more advice on confirming which is the right one for you.

10 years late but it’s the fob.
96-97= black fob
98= gray fob
They transmit differently and are not interchangeable.

So I ordered the key fob I linked in the post above. I tried programming it several times with no success. So I called the company and they tried walking me through it. They give the same instructions as my RS3000 owners guide. Push the little button on the ECU for 3 seconds, the red light on the status monitor comes on, which mine does. Then press the button on the fob. The monitor is suppose to chirp, and the exterior lights are suppose to flash once, and the fob is programmed. I tried this 20 times in every possible way with no success. So I took the fob to autozone to make sure its sending out a signal, and it is.

So I called the company back again today, and the lady looks up my vin and says that I didnt have an alarm system and keyless entry installed from the factory, and thats why its not working. Well, news for you miss, I have the "Toyota VIP RS3000" owners manual right here in my glove box. Its review dated 6/15/95, so theres no way in he*ll it was installed aftermarket. I have the ECU right under my seat with the little button. I have the status monitor installed right next to my window button. I press the button on the ECU for 3 seconds, and the red led on the status monitor lights up. Its all there. The alarm may not have been installed in the Toyota factory. It was probably installed as an option by the 1st buyer when it was brand new on the lot. So it doesnt matter where it was installed. Its an original toyota RS3000 security/keyless entry system.

Anyone have any ideas? Do I possibly have a blown fuse somewhere? Id love to get this thing figured out, as both of my roomated had stuff stolen from their cars last week. I had my doors locked, which was enough to keep the guy out. But I might not be so lucky next time.

Again, late with this but the écu could be ‘full’ of fobs. Clear it then enter the new fob. It clears with the same pencil pushed button on the side of the box under the seat.
Key on
Hold ecu button 5 sec, let go
Hold ecu button again for 2 sec, let go.
Turn off key.
Now the alarm ecu is ‘empty’. Add your fob.
Key on
Hold ecu button on with pencil for a 3 sec, let go
Press fob button
Turn off key.

Also: grey gobs font work on 96 or 97
Well, Im officially giving up on this. I got the correct key for (-022, gray) and I know it works cause the light comes on. I press the button for 3 seconds on my ECU and the light comes on. And then I press the botton on the fob, and nothing happens. Ive tried every possible combo. Door open, door closed. Bottom button, top button, both buttons at once. Nothing works. This is bolshevik!

So Ill probably have a gray Toyota OEM key fob for sale shortly here

Help with key fob

Hey RAV,

I got your PM-- Here are the instructions for programming the 99-02 4Runner Keyless Entry factory remotes:

1. Start with the following conditions: you are in the vehicle

a. Key is out of the ignition
b. Drive door is open ( all other doors are closed)
c. Driver door is unlocked (other door locks don't matter)

2. Insert the key into the ignition (don't turn it) and pull it out.

3. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:

a. Cycle the power locks 5 times. Use an even pace and try
to go relatively fast.

b. Close, then open the drivers door.

4. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:

a. Cycle the power locks 5 times (same as before).
b. Turn the ignition to ON then back to OFF.
c. Turn the ignition to ON then back to OFF.
d. Remove the key from the ignition.

5. Within 3 seconds, the power door locks should cycle (automatically)
indicating successful entry into programming mode. Return to step 1
if the locks do not cycle at this point.

6. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:

a. Press the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter
simultaneously for 1 second.

b. Immediately after letting go of the lock and unlock buttons,
press the lock button by itself and hold for 2 seconds.
Within 3 seconds, the door locks should cycle ( LOCK then
UNLOCK) once-- indicating successful programming. If
the door locks don't cycle, or cycle twice. Repeat steps
6a and 6b--this remote has not been accepted.

c. Repeat steps 6a and 6b for EACH transmitter that will
operate the vehicle. Including any old transmitters.

7. Close the driver door.

Hope this helps you, it did me greatly-- Good luck, :)

99 RWD SR5 no alarm, no key fobs came with vehicle when I bought it

I was wondering if anyone had any advice.

I can get into programming mode with really any of these methods Using the key, manually, or just by pressing the button on the door.

I can confirm clearing the codes

When I get to step 6 A, Press the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter simultaneously for 1 second It Immediately jumps to step 6 b.

This does show that my fobs function, as they are "communicating" enough to confirm.

Then the remotes do nothing.

Any tips or advice would be appreciated.

I ordered another set of fobs from another company and the worked first try.

I had read though all 22 pages of this thread and only one other person seemed to have my issue. Somehow whatever set of fobs we were using were simply not "syncing" after entering the programming mode. I got a different set off amazon and they worked first try.

Okay. I cannot get this figured out. Think I'm getting into programming mode fine but after I turn the key twice I get 3 horn beeps, and my locks cycle twice.

After that I can't get my new fobs to program. My old one looks like a Sequioa one? It has a black basket for the battery instead of a small metal "cage" that the battery slides into. All the batteries have good charge. Checked that with the meter.

Ordered these ones: Amazon.com: KeylessOption Keyless Entry Remote Control Car Key Fob Replacement for HYQ12BAN, HYQ12BBX, HYQ1512Y (Pack of 2) : Automotive

Seems like no matter what I try, can't get it to take. I press the lock+unlock for a second then press lock and nothing happens. Tap lock again and the locks cycle twice.

2001 SR5. I have the aftermarket, dealer installed alarm. I think thats whats messing me up but can't be sure.

I've had pretty bad experience with the aftermarket FOB's though I know some on here have been able to get them to work. I bought two different sets of aftermarket FOBS that matched the ID on the back of my OEM FOB's from Amazon and both of them the system refused to accept both on my 99' and on a 00' I bought to flip. I ended up buying OEM FOB's from toyotapartsdeal.com (I think they were around $65 if I remember correctly?) and they linked to the alarm ECU first try. They aren't real cheap, but I figured the OEM remotes lasted 22+ years before having issues so I didn't have a problem buying OEM again assuming they last as long. Just my .02

United States Auto Security 4000

Hey guys. I have a 97 4runner with an aftermarket security system I think and I'm hoping someone here has some information on programming it. So i have a red LED on the left side of my steering wheel near the dimmer switch. I also have a small switch on the driver kick panel.
I opened up under the steering wheel and found what I think is a security ECU with United States Auto Security 4000 or something like that. I closed it back up and can't remember exactly what it said. My key fob that I have also says United States Auto Security. FCC ID ELV777K. It is a two button remote with MT5A inside on the actual circuit board. I really have no idea what I'm doing or if the programming instructions described here would work. Thanks for your help

I also have the same "United States Auto Security 4000" black box alarm as described above in our 1996 4runner. After searching for that name and finding nothing but this post, I finally struck gold by researching the FCC ID# ELVMR5 and emailing the company that it was registered to. The FFC# is slightly different than above, but I'm hoping that this helps someone else someday, since it's basically close and all googling points here for the main name on the alarm box.

Here's some info on that device. It helped me troublehsoot the alarm in general and reprogram some FOBs.

- It's acutally a Magnadyne Carbine PL60-EA Rev A (PL60 for short)
- Manufactured by Nutek for the above Nutek
- Owners Manual: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0657/8103/9344/files/CarbinePL50PL60OwnersManual_Manual.pdf
- Installation Manual: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0657/8103/9344/files/CarbinePL50PL60InstallationManual_Manual.pdf

I have a 1998 which for the last 3 years I wasn't sure if it had keyless entry or not. The previous owner's son (who was helping their father sell the 4runner) claimed that my 4runner had a remote (that they couldn't find).

This was believable because they had the window sticker that showed the UP package that included "power windows, power locks..." and cost over $2000. I could not find the box for reprogramming under the seat or anywhere, and I could not program a key.

Today I went to the dealership and it finally settled this. The UP package is not related to keyless entry, when it says power locks it refers to unlocking the locks from a button on the drivers door or twisting the key in the lock to open all the doors.

The guy at Toyota said that the keyless entry was something you would have if there was an alarm installed. And I believe him because I've torn apart the interior several times over the years and never seen anything for keyless entry. So not having an alarm system is a good indication that your 4runner doesn't have keyless entry. Some base 4runners had keyless entry, but mine doesn't.

It's easy to get confused, all 4runners with keyless entry have power locks but not all 4runners with power locks have remote entry.

For those struggling w/ the instructions and the 'slow' power door locks.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND USING YOUR KEY IN THE DOOR TO MANUALLY LOCK/UNLOCK THE DOORS, THEN PRESSING THE 'DOOR CLOSE' BUTTON IN THE DOOR JAM.

See attached .pdf

Just want to thank everyone in this thread for all the advice. I have a 1999 SR5, and while it took many tries, I got it. To consolidate what some others have said, here were my errors that others can avoid:

1. User error in the sequence. I read the instructions, and then promptly made two attempts pressing unlock/lock (5x) instead of lock/unlock. Point being... slow down, reread, and make sure you're following the instructions properly. It's a lot to remember at once.

2. I didn't use the key in the door initially. I figured I could use the electronic button and "help" the lock button on the inside door. That was ineffective. Key in the door is the way to go.

Other than that, go quickly and pace evenly in locking/unlocking.

These were the units I purchased from Amazon:

Did this work for you? I want to do it on my 97 Sr5

Considering that user hasn't been online since August 2007, I'm going to assume you won't be getting an answer.

Long story short, if you have the RS3000 (black box under seat) you can use any of the remotes online that don't have the roll down window. The 99+ programming will not work for you.

Use this manual to learn more:

Anybody have advice how to do it with 1. A bad lock actuator (it only cycles a time or two then sounds weak) and the key I have doesn’t work in my doors I think previous owner replaced doors but not the lock

Does anybody know if I can push down and pull up on the locks manually instead of pushing the lock/unlock button? I really want to get the fob set up so I can lock the car at night

You can assist the power lock by pushing/pulling the knob. But you need to use the lock/unlock button at the same time. At least, I'm about 95% sure you need to use the button.

A few months ago I was trying to program a new fob on my '99 and was having issues with all of the locks getting weaker and unable to complete the lock/unlock steps, and failing to enter programming mode. I ended up replacing the lock module ECU (around your knee on the driver side behind the lower dash panel). I looked it over carefully and didn't see any failed solder joints. Got another one from a junkyard from a 2000, put that in, and the locks were back to their normal behavior, and I was able to program in all 3 of my fobs.

I figured it out!!! Do not use the lock/unlock button inside the car--use the key in the door:

1. Unlock all doors and open the driver's door. Leave open.
2. Insert key into ignition, remove it
3. While still open, insert key into driver's door and Lock/Unlock 5 times
4. Close door and reopen
5. While open, insert key into driver's door and Lock/Unlock 5 times
6. Inset key into ignition and turn to "on (do not start) then off.

Locks will cycle

7. On FOB, press lock and unlock simultaneously
8. Then press unlock

This addresses the issue of those who have older actuators that can't quite make it through the lock/unlock cycle.
