Programming Instructions for keyless entry remote?

Anyone tried to program for all doors to unlock with the remote. I have an 03 LTD and have tried following this several times, but had no luck. Any ideas?

Did you press unlock twice? If all doors don't unlock when you press the unlock button twice, then I don't know what to tell you, other than to ask your local T4R dealer.

I have a 1998. I would like to know this as well. I purchased my truck without a remote entry key, and I would like one.

Does anyone know how to actually clear the remote? I am using one of my fiance's remotes from her 2005 Rav4 and now everytime I unlock my car hers unlocks or locks.....

I know this is an old thread but I thought I would put my update in. I have a 99 SR5 that only had one key fob when I bought it. The dealer wanted almost 200 for a new remote with programing so eBay to the rescue. $40 later I had a used remote that lookes better than the one that came with my runner. I found this thread and followed the directions exactly with no luck at all. I wasn't getting into programing mode. No auto lock and unlock after step 5. I tried about 10 times and no go. So I did a little research and found another set of instructions on the web that were exactly the same except that there was no step 4c. I tried it without 4c and sure enough worked like a charm. I don't know if the issue is because I don't have a limited or what but if one way doesn't work try the other.

I got your PM-- Here are the instructions for programming the 99-02 4Runner Keyless Entry factory remotes:

1. Start with the following conditions: you are in the vehicle

a. Key is out of the ignition
b. Drive door is open ( all other doors are closed)
c. Driver door is unlocked (other door locks don't matter)

2. Insert the key into the ignition (don't turn it) and pull it out.

3. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:

a. Cycle the power locks 5 times. Use an even pace and try
to go relatively fast.

b. Close, then open the drivers door.

4. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:

a. Cycle the power locks 5 times (same as before).
b. Turn the ignition to ON then back to OFF.
c. Turn the ignition to ON then back to OFF.
d. Remove the key from the ignition.

5. Within 3 seconds, the power door locks should cycle (automatically)
indicating successful entry into programming mode. Return to step 1
if the locks do not cycle at this point.

6. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:

a. Press the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter
simultaneously for 1 second.

b. Immediately after letting go of the lock and unlock buttons,
press the lock button by itself and hold for 2 seconds.
Within 3 seconds, the door locks should cycle ( LOCK then
UNLOCK) once-- indicating successful programming. If
the door locks don't cycle, or cycle twice. Repeat steps
6a and 6b--this remote has not been accepted.

c. Repeat steps 6a and 6b for EACH transmitter that will
operate the vehicle. Including any old transmitters.

7. Close the driver door.

Interestingly, I tried this both ways, with and without 4C.

With 4C, the door locks cycle twice, lock, unlock, lock unlock.

Without 4C, the door locks cycle once, lock and unlock.

Does anyone understand what this means? I have a 2002 4runner Limited.

Unfortunately neither method programs my remote. Since I am getting into programming mode with one of the methods, I am assuming that I have either a bad remote battery, or bad remote or wrong remote, my FCC number is HYQ1512Y. Do I have the correct remote? I don't have the dealer installed alarm.

For those that have been successful, can you tell me how soon you press the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously after the final door lock cycle (step6a)?

It appears that I should wait until the final lock cycle, but in frustration after many attempts I held the two remote buttons during the lock cycle, without result.

Also, do you hold the two buttons for the full "one Mississippi", or is it a press and release?

Lastly should the flashing security light, be flashing or be off, while in the programming mode (after the last lock cycle?

You press everything pretty quickly. I remember when I programmed mine last year that I had to do something differently than the instructions said...but I can't remember....which sucks b/c the battery in my remote is almost dead!! haha

I want to say that it was with the actual remote....when I got into program mode, I think after I pressed both buttons I just toggled between Lock and Unlock on the remote and then it started to work....I will test it when I get my new battery.

Any idea what size battery those take and where to get them?

I tried these instructions on my 99 4 Runner at first without success. I finally gave up and went to the dealer. The dealer told me that they could not do it either because the actuators in the driver's door and the front passenger door were not working at 100 percent. They seem to work pretty good but, not when you click locks back and forth so much. They estimated about $200 to have new Actuators installed in the front doors. The actuators are the things that actually make the doors lock and unlock when you are using the arm rest lock/unlock controls. I told them I would think about it. When I got home, the actuators on the passenger door seemed okay. I followed the above instructions accept that I used my left hand to manually lock and unlock the door while I simultaneously pressed the lock and unlock controls on hte armrest with my right hand. It worked the first time.

Man, I tried this on my 2000 SR5 multiple times and it wouldn't work. I bought the car with 1 remote with a dead battery. I replaced the battery and it actually locked and unlocked the doors a couple times, and opened the rear window, but then it quite working. It was after this that I tried the programming instructions to no avail.

TSand, the different number of times you turn the ignition is supposed to enter the car into different modes, only one of which is rewrite (Programming) mode. I don't remember the details, but google it and you should be able to find it.

Anyone got any tips for me? I know I was completing each cycle in less than 40s. Is there some special rhythm I should follow? Do I need to wait between numbered steps, or just plow through the whole thing?

All I have is the Valet key - does the key used for programming the remote (step 2) have to be the master?

after hours of tryin, a trip to walmart to buy a new battery I finally got my remote to work.

I was able to get the lock and unlock sequence down right, got the confirmation but couldnt get the damm remote to work.

I was ready to email the ebay seller for selling me a broken remote....

So after alot of trial and error. I took the remote apart again and it looked like the battery wasnt sitting in there right, what i did is I folded up some paper into a 1/4 x 1/4 size square, and placed it between the battery and the rear cover.

And that did the trick ! go figure ! :frog:

DESPERATE!

Hi I have a 1999 Runner SR5 with the VIP RS3000 facory installed alarm. I purchased the HYQ1512Y alarm remote from Ebay and I am tryign to program.

I have followed the instructions that came with it and the one posted on this board. I can get into the programming mode, but I cannot add the remote. I keep getting the locks to cycle twice(unsuccessful) instead of once (successful) when I hold either the lock or unlock button for 2 seconds.

When I insert the key into the ignition, do I have to turn the key once, twice, three times, or ultimately 5 times? I am getting frustrated?!?!?!

After.... it took me a few tries to get it right. And one of my remotes needs a new battery so it was a no go.

So i tried using the 5 lock/unlock version of programming my remotes different ways......with doors open and doors closed. Before I was able to get into the programming mode,with the locks cycling 3 times to let me know I am in. BUT NOW IT WON'T.

I've also noticed that my power locks are out of whack! Sometimes they react to the lock/unlock buttons, sometimes they don't. Also I have noticed that when i try getting into the programming mode, the driver's side lock will not go up or down during the 2nd round of locking and unlocking.

Reading a prior post on here, is my driver side lock actuators shot? Or did I screw up some programming sequence. Anyway of resetting things (like unhooking the battery)??

HELP!!! Anyway I can get back at least into the programming mode???

I just picked up a 2001 SRD Sport without a key fob. I called Toyota to confirm it did come with the factory keyless entry. The parts man told me the FCC ID on the fob was HYQ12BBX. This seems odd to me because most of you guys all report using the 1512Y or 12BAN fob for the 97-2002's. The 12BBX is used on the 07-08 FJ's and 04+ 4Runners from what I can tell on ebay.

Does anyone else's 97-2002 use this 12BBX fob? They are much cheaper on ebay and I want to confirm this is the right one before buying one.
