Project "Tetanus"

I picked up my first 4Runner from an auction sight unseen. I have purchased 5 or 6 vehicles through this auction in previous years and it's always a gamble.
Tetanus is a 2000 SR5, green with tan interior. Just over 100k and looks great!

Well upon loading her up on my trailer I discover the frame rot. Rust everywhere, holes in the frame and a missing cross member that mounts the transfer case.. It rusted off! Hell the crossmember above the rear axle is broken in 2 spots. I have never in my lifetime seen anything like this... I can not believe these haven't been recalled.
I'm not going to rant about it, as the Internet has plenty of it.

She's going to get fixed up via fresh steel and my bad mamma jamma welder. Hopefully a mild lift with some meats to roll on. I was really looking forward to owning one these, but damn.... I'm disappointed with Toyota.

I don't think it was Toyota's fault but the previous owner's fault. Any vehicle will rust out bad if driven on salt roads every winter with no care.

Yeah can't fault Toyota on this, You live near the salt belt so this isn't really a surprise unfortunately.

Well technically you could fault Toyota on using a thinner metal than most other manufacturers use but that argument can only be but so big.

Good luck on your repairs!
