Propeller Shaft Re-Torque

The dealership wants to re-torque my propeller shaft for $40, which isn't that expensive but I figured if they were only charging $40 it cant be too hard. I tried searching and couldn't find much on this. Does anyone know of a write up or could explain themselves? Thanks

Crow feet. Very handy little tools that should get you in there with an extension

This may be a dumb question, but where are the bolts (I assume?) and how much "torque" are you supposed to put on them?
 
It's actually the nuts at the ends that are torqued and iirc for 3rd gens it's 54 ft/lbs. . . can't find 4th gen torque specs

Yea every 10-15K miles they ask me to tighten it. At the 20k Mile mark I was towing a cross-country trip over 7K miles so I went ahead and paid out the $40. Ill pop my head under the 4runner today and look for some nuts.
 
I think I found them (circled them in red). If this is really all they do at $10 nut, I will be very upset.

I'm also trying to find out the torque specs for a 4th gen. I was thinking of calling the dealer, but then again they are never too helpful.
As far as I can tell, I think a traditional socket will work on the nuts. It will probably need to be an extended head though because the bolt sticks out.
 
Driveshaft
Flange bolts/nuts

Front (4WD).....................64 Ft-lbs
Rear
2WD...............................65 Ft-lbs
4WD...............................64 Ft-lbs

The problem is not getting a socket to fit, the problem is the clearance with the head of the torque wrench. That's why I recommended the crow feet. That should off set the torque wrench from the drive shaft allowing you to ratchet down
 
Yes correct! It is for the 4th Gen........ Let me know if you have any other questions, as far as the 4th Gen otherwise i won't know lol....Also 40$$ a bolt is really expensive i guess it is 8$ for labor and 2 for using their torque equipment per bolt.......That is why i do all my work now.......Only thing i can't do is a 4WD Alignment....
 
2010 propeller shaft torque

does anyone have the torque specs for the 2010 propeller shaft nuts.

Yes correct! It is for the 4th Gen........
