Propeller Shaft replacement

I just had my 99 4Runner 4WD at the dealer and they told me I need a new Propeller Shaft ($900 for the part and $200 for labor). I have 126k miles (mostly highway miles) on it and have done all the maintenance recommendations on it. The 4R went in for a clunking, oscillating vibration with sound. You can feel the vibration in the floorboards. Kinda feels like when a tire is very out of balance.

Any ideas?

I would get the tires balanced first and have them checked to see if they are out of round. That is a lot cheaper than a new drive shaft. If it still vibrates, go to a drive shaft shop and have them check the balance of the DS itself.

OK, so the dealer put in a new propeller shaft, drove it, and still the same problem. They put the old propeller shaft back on. Now they are telling me the Transfer Case needs to be replaced.

Anyone have experience with having to replace the transfer case?
