OK, so here's what I'm thinking. I've got an '04 SR5 with the basic radio and am looking to upgrade all around over the next few months as the cash flow allows. Here's the grocery list so far:
- Kenwood Excelon DDX8017 6.5" touchscreen monitor
- Kenwood KNA-DV4100 nav system
- MB Quart Premium PCE-216 6.5" components (front)
- MB Quart Reference RCE-269 6x9" components (rear)
- Alpine MRV-F450 90x4/370x1 amplifier
- JL Audio SB-T-4RNR2/10W3V2/TP 10" Stealthbox
- Kenwood KCA-IP500 iPod control interface
- Either Kenwood's SIRIUS SIR-KEN1 Sirius tuner or Terk's XMD1000/XMDKEN100 universal XM tuner & Kenwood adapter
- Scosche TA1465B double-DIN trim brackets
With that in mind...
1) I need some sort of adapter that will allow my factory steering wheel audio controls to operate (at a bare minimum) the volume for the 8017. Any input on that?
2) Will I need an external crossover?
3) I will be doing very little actual DVD watching in the truck, but would prefer not to be restricted to having the parking brake on if a passenger would like to watch something on a road trip. Obviously, I'll be watching the road. Is there a walkaround for this Nazi... errr... safety measure?
4) Does anyone have comments, recommendations, warnings, or any info I ought to know before I start writing a whole bunch of checks? Thinking specifically with regard to fit, missing equipment (everything listed is everything I know to buy outside of the basic wiring and maybe a capacitor), or same price-range substitutions better geared towards my listening preferences? Price is of course a factor but is not the driving factor.
For reference, most of my time will be spent listening to iPod (mostly alt-rock, acoustic rock, and country), listening to Sat radio (mostly talk; service to be determined at a later date), listening to local AM sports talk, and of course GPS. I'm not concerned about setting off car alarms 3 blocks away with this system (I've had one of those). Just very good, clean sound that plays loud enough to help drown out the hours my job keeps me on the road.
