Just picked it up today. Drove it 100 miles home with no problems on the highway at 166k miles. The guy gave a ziplock bag thick as a phone book full of service records. The only thing is the radio. The antenna doesn't go up and down thus fm reception sucks. I plan to buy a whole new sound system anyway though. The engine is very quiet when stopped at a light. Sounds more quiet than my '04 Accord. The only thing thats weird is that when I am at a complete stop, i feel a slight vibration. Not like its gonna cut off or anything but I do feel some vibration coming from the engine. Is this common in 3rd gen 4runners?

Congrats man, looks nice. Look into the "Taco Whip Mod" for the antenna. I would worry too much about the vibration at this point, after all, it's got 166K on it. They're great trucks but don't expect it to be Lexus quiet.

Most power antennas break. Mine did. I unplugged the power lines (inside the plastic inner fender). I just grabbed the stub and yank it up. It now can be raised or lowered by hand.

Seriously though, that was the main reason I bought my T4R - it had ALL service records from 0 to 100K miles. (None other than oil changes from 100K to 130K, but I know the guy who owned it from that point.) Sounds like you got a great deal.

As far as the vibration goes, yeah, I've got that; I chalk it up to being an older engine. I don't think it means anything's wrong - in fact, my father in law, a car buff, overlooked my engine today, and said, and I quote, "for a vehicle with 133K on it, this thing looks, acts and tests like it was brand new."

Lol thanks guys. These 3rd gens are probably the most reliable vehicles I've ever seen. There is no way in hell I would buy a Dodge,Ford, or Chevy with 166k miles even if it had the service records.

hey nice buy, it looks exactly like mine lol but mine has 212000 miles so i shouldnt worry about it vibrating it just has a lil bit of rough idle but its nothing to be concerned about.

Thanks again guys. I have a simple question. While replacing the brake light bulb on the top brake light, I had to unscrew the spoiler thingy. It was getting kinda dark and I lost one of the screws. Where can I get another screw from?

dude. you may be my doppleganger! i also just picked up an '01 runner with 160k, drove it a little over 100 miles back to my house, super smooth ride and quiet as all getout. looks exactly the same and had the same antenna issue except mine shot out like a missile, teeth and all after turning her on the other morning. looking into the taco whip mod so it doesn't happen again.

I think I'll look at a hardware store first. The stealership will probably charge 50 bucks for it.

your ****ed, thats a special screw, they have a very uncommon thread size and pitch. ive never seen one any place other than toyota and they dont make them any more... sucks man but yeah i dont know what to tell you
