I just went on the Game Stop website and they are the only ones who I come across that have one in stock. The rumor about PS3 seems to be accurate. Check out this website: http://www.ps3land.com/faq.php#1

Don't even bother try to convince me to go Xbox, I did my homework and in the grand scheme of things depending on what you want and what I want, PS2 is my choice. But I am bored and have time to kill so I will list out how I came to this decision.
First I have a kick a$$ PC and I am a PC tech so building, changing, fixing, etc. costs me nothing more than parts. So why not stick to PC you ask? Well let me tell you; first to keep up with the demands of games you have to upgrade your video card and ram about every two years with many of the games (NOT ALL). Second the cost of a good video card can cost you anywhere from $150 to $300 and up, and ram is not that bad but like I said the video card is a huge cost. So about every two years you are doing that, now add the cost of the games (assuming you are paying for them). See the dollar signs come and go from your wallet yet?
Now take counsels, regardless of which one you get you buy it, the secondary controller, max out the memory, and any additions you like to buy and that is it. You are all set for the next 4 to 5 years unless it breaks, and since they are so affordable you might as well just buy a new one. Also if you want to buy some additional things that is trivial for it is not mandatory to do so.
Now comes the question which one, well if you ask people chances are you will get more opinions than facts. Perfect example that I see and hear a lot, "PS2 sucks get a XBox." The fact is that is not true. If you find this website i found by doing a Google search for PS2 vs Xbox you will get a great factual break down of the differences between Xbox, PS2, and the Gamecube. I will sum it up for you: the Gamecube is great for preteens for the games made for it fits them, and some parents are concerned about such things. Now you have the PS2 and Xbox. The Xbox is basically a PC compacted into a square box with great graphics; it does NOT have the library of games like the PS2. Plus this is their first version of it and there are rumors they are going to drop the line. Not to mention PS2 not only has a great library but also is backwards comptable, and this is expected with their 2006 Fall edition the PS3.
To conclude, it really comes to what you want to get out of it. For me I just want something I can connect to my TV, drink a beer, and play. No muss no fuss. Also I want a unit that has a large selection of driving and motorcycle games; can you say PS2???

Nope, not crapping on your choice to get a PS2. PS2 is ok, but I prefer my Xbox to it any day of the year.
You're correct that the PS2 has a larger library of games and if a selection is what you crave then by all means get it. Xbox has some catching up to do in that department but thats because this is the first generation. PS1 and PS2 has been around for years and the hardware and games have shown for years now the limitations of the hardware. Ever play Grand Theft Auto on the PS2? Why they heck are the characters so blocky? Its because the PS2 can't handle the graphics. Look at games like Splinter Cell 1 and 2, Halo 1 and 2 and so forth on the Xbox and you'll see they are drastically more detailed.
If you've heard rumours they (Microsoft) is going to not make a second generation of the Xbox, then those rumours are greatly mistaken. Xbox has been getting more and more consumer support and with the recent release of Halo2 on the console it just keeps growing. Xbox has already edged out Gamecube (not like it was that hard to do) and is clawing at the heels of the PS2. Its only a matter of time before it surpasses it. PS2 is a dinosaur compared to the Xbox and Gamecube and even the defunct Dreamcast. There is an article on IGN where they did a 4-way comparison between the Xbox/Gamecube/PS2/PC versions of Splinter Cell. PC/Xbox was essentially tied with the PC having a slight edge, then came Gamecube and pulling anchor was the PS2. The same game looks drastically different on the consoles. Backwards compatibility is great and all, but who wants to play the original Grand Theft Auto on their PS3. I'd rather be playing a newer game, but thats me.
Also, Xbox's online is much better. XBOX Live is a great experience and much better compared to PS2. Read all the reviews and they'll say the same. Every Xbox live enabled game is built to a standard so every game can use your online friend list, the xbox head set so you can actually SPEAK to your opponent/teammates.
So like I said, I won't crap on your decision to get a PS2 but I just wanted to correct misconceptions that the Xbox is no more. Have fun with it and keep on gaming...
Oh yeah, I'm in total agreement with you on the PC thing. I'm in IT and when I first started I had the top of the line everything in my PC. Then I got tired of swapping this and that out because I needed to have it to play the next great game. So Xbox was the Godsend. Like you said, its essentially a PC so PC quality graphics on a console and I couldn't resist. They port games written for the Xbox to the PC without that much work and there is never a loss of quality only an increase.

Well it's not like I am poor and I do like driving games more than anything else. I am not a Halo or Auto Theft person for while Auto Theft has driving it's cleary have more than just that. I like to get in my car and go buck wild.
With that said you never know, come 2006 I will have more time and might just own both. Also to add I just found a link in another location on the Walgreens site showing it in stock; it's been ordered with the Smackdown vs Raw game and Need for Speed Underground 2 plus an extra controller, memory card, and a case so I can take it to my inlaws when I am bored to shit.

Another recomendation for a good driving game would be Grand Turismo. NFS2UG is better, but if you are into driving games like me, you will enjoy that too!! I have to agree with Sharp4runr about the poor PS2 graphics. My brother has XBox I play Madden 2005 on that and my PS2. Xbox wins in that category any day. The problem with Xbox is his had to go in for service twice for a freezing problem. I have my PS2 since the month it was released and has never given me a problem!

I can't play first or 3rd person shooter games on anything but a keyboard and mouse; hence a PC.
On a different note I have my PS2...YIPPI Still waiting for my NFS2, but I have ATV3 and Fight Club and just barely touched them before my daughter woke up. Had some trouble with connecting it; did not function the way I expected but that is from not referring to the manual; a typical male trait. Anyway I am also waiting for my case to hold all, and this new slim line is tiny. My sister-inlaw's ex has the original model and size alone they are night and day.
As far as the graphics, from what I can remember playing with a bodies XBox I don't see a huge difference, but that has been awhile. Either way I am happy. Now need to find a good site to list all the fighters cool moves.
