PT546-00160 - 2016+ Scion Head Unit

Any word on if this will work with JBL? Or is this only for non-JBL?

It wont work with the factory amp, but its possible to wire it up directly to the factory door speakers. The dash speaker and rear hatch speakers will be lost. Also the JBL non-nav headunit is a different shape. You will need to find the plastic trim that surrounds the headunit for it to fit right without gaps. I mean the big one with that goes all the way down to the console.

I put a factory Nav unit from a Sienna in my 4Runner last year, but was not able to find the right trim piece since the Sport model has different color interior trim than SR5s and Limited models. I wasn't willing to spend $400 on a new one.

That plus having to deal with the factory EQ curve and I ditched it after only a few weeks. Its still sitting on a shelf.

I'm still waiting on my backup camera and USB cable (for AHA Features) to arrive, but I couldn't wait another week to install lit, so I got after it last night.


Dumb question, what are AHA features?

Did you make sure the factory antenna amp is hooked up? Reception should be fine using one antenna or the other.

Not sure where the amp is located. The power wire for it is pin 8 on the 10 pin connector that provides power to the headunit (assuming you had a non-JBL radio).

Edit: from this pic in the first post it looks like the Scion headunit might send power for the antenna amp from the antenna connector rather than pin 8 like the 4Runner headunit.

Just purchased 06 4Runner and wanted to find a good audio upgrade option. I think I will be going with this option.. look forward to see the rear camera install! Would it work same as factory one without any custom wiring? It would be perfect!

Just found a newer headunit - PT546-00170 from Toyota Corolla. Would this work same as older version? Not sure what difference it has compared to the 00160 one.

For the scion guys, do you have a delay in Bluetooth every time you start the car? The older scion version was instantaneous. I have the toyota model and was curious if you guys experienced the same?

Wow, so $372 for an up to date HU. Pretty cheap.

1) I thought the "bespoke" system was out of production? Didn't "Entune" take over?
2) How much does the NAV module go for?

Like [MENTION=5149]riceandpho[/MENTION] said, the aftermarket has TONS more options, BUT, it won't look OEM (some of us care about that).

Hey All,

Update! - So I got a little too excited when I purchased everything, I forgot one lovely important piece.... the ADAPTER to be able too hook up the backup camera. You notice on the back of the head unit, there is not an AV hookup. I don't have the part # with me at this very moment (not behind my computer), but I will update everything upon ordering it. It was like $17 on amazon.

I'm still waiting on my backup camera and USB cable (for AHA Features) to arrive, but I couldn't wait another week to install lit, so I got after it last night.

AHA Features are just in-unit features....pandora, etc. that you're able to access thru the head unit rather than flipping thru your phone.

Works as factory. You'll run it up to the head unit and tap into the reverse wire. Just need that adapter that I mentioned above which I'll list the part # for.

I had it at the beginning, but it's improved ever since I've added the USB connection. Even with NOT connecting it via USB, some reason the Bluetooth portion improved. Don't know why.

That being said the USB plug in is always nice, as it charges your phone while streaming music/ using phone/etc.

I guess I should update what I HAVE added... the USB adapter + running the extender inside my arm rest cubby. I'm sorry its not AS detailed, but it's pretty straight forward.

The Main USB adapter that plugs in the back of the unit and you can run it as you please, should you not choose to do my route.

I ran mine thru the center console, right next to the shifter and cables. Plenty of room and drilled a small enough hole (by far the hardest part, as the room is minimal) in my arm rest cubby to place the extender.

The trick is to make a hole just big enough to slide the adapter in, and when you run the wire thru it, use the other hand to work the adapter in SNUG into the arm rest.

If it's an identical unit with Toyota branding on the unit, I don't think it's worth spending extra money for that unit. I thought it was a newer and more advanced unit.

I found 00160 unit from a local junkyard I can buy for $120 (just the unit itself but I was hoping they could find a bluetooth mic!)

This looks really good! Its one thing that has really bugged me with my 4runner. The aftermarket head unit the previous owner put in looks terrible. There are 1" gaps on either side of it.

Do you think its possible to paint over the scion name badge off?

I might have to take it in to a professional audio person to see if they can hook it up to my jbl system or other ways to keep all the speakers working.
