PTSD and a bigger car. Hi guys

Hey all, my name is Ryan. Moved to Austin, TX from Columbus, OH a little over 6 months ago with my beautiful wife and my 2013 VW GLI. Since January 24th, I have been sideswiped/tboned by two Ram 2500s. Multiple slipped discs, broken vertebrae and a newly diagnosed case of PTSD have me looking for a larger vehicle as I'm a bit panicky to get back in my GLI. The car was near totaled but fixable so now I am going to eat my lease and move on.

Plan is to get into a 06-09 4runner Sport 4wd. Loving some Shadow Mica but color is the least of my worries in making this decision. Your warm welcomes and any 4th gen advice would be greatly appreciated. Prior to my VW, I had a 06 TJ and loved it but I want something more practical. Going to try to stay below $15k and 100k miles.

Welcome to the site, and welcome to Austin. Great place to live. With a huge influx of people to Austin, check your normals like car fax and physical inspection for rust before buying. Having multiple kids of driving age, I have see some clean cars, only to discover they had been submerged in flooding, and then cleaned up real nice. Check the dealerships, including San Antonio. When I purchased my last truck, there was a 5k difference in price between Austin and SA. Happy hunting

When i bough my 4runner I found the car prices much lower in San Antonio than Austin.

You are also in luck. Texas has plenty of used 4runners. Take your time and I bet you will find a nice truck with a good price.

thanks for all of your warm welcomes. Picked up a 2005 V8 Limited 2WD with 94k on the clock from Carmax on Wednesday. Brother works at the location in Columbus so I got the homie hookup. Got the T4R for $14,200 and added the MaxCare warranty on top for $2500 that goes up to 150k miles. Raised a bit of hell that Carmax did not take care of the timing belt and water pump already (considering it has 94k and is over 10 years old now) so they are doing it for me at cost (approx $400). They are also fixing a leak in the power steering pump under warranty as well as the stock sub which is blown. :nod:

Loving it so far, not scared to be out on the road here anymore... though there have been two fatalities on 2222 in the last week and a half...

Glad to see you got a comfortable ride to help you get back on the road. I'm sure you don't miss the idiots up here in Columbus... especially once snow started falling. :wow2: you think some people never saw it the way they drive!

I don't miss that about cbus but its the same way here with rain. The whole city goes into panic mode like fire is coming out of the sky. Lord have mercy if snow or ice are involved.

We'll be back soon enough, I'm 7 months in to a two year gig down here and then back up north most likely
