Pulled the trigger, thanks for all the help guys!

I went today and traded the 2005 in for a 2011 magnetic gray w/ leather. I test drove it again and took everyones comments and realized that it is a very nice vehicle and in time my worries will be gone. Got to get myself some Husky liners now. What are you guys using for a hood protector? OEM? What about that clear covering they offer? Thanks again all for your help! :jump:

BIG DIK PLAYA!!!!!!!!

CONGRATS ON THE BUY MAN

I'll post pics once I take delivery. I will be picking it up on Tuesday.

What is a good hood protector for the 5th gen? I see that Toyo has a clear 3m bra type thing and I have seen the OEM plastic hoot protector as well. I do a lot of highway driving so this is definately a concer. Thoughts? I am trying to get things ordered prior to receiving it.

Congrats man. I'm sure you'll love it, especially the extra interior space. I have the 3M clearbra and I'm very happy with it. You can order it to cover just the hood, or more if you want. The good thing about the 3m is it covers more of the hood than the Toyota version.

Did you install this yourself? My concern is snow and washing the car. I would be affraid that it would come off due to the water but I can only assume that its made for this specifically. Did you get local or at your dealership?

I'm sure a person with the right skills could install themselves, but I wasn't gonna try it. A lot of window tint shops install them. If you're not gonna DIY, I would suggest going online and finding an authorized 3M dealer in your area. Just look up 3M Scotchgaurd paint protection film on the company website.

My hood section is Toyota dealer installed (was already installed on the lot). The rest of the front is 3M.....didn't have the hood redone to save some $$$.
The 3M stuff is very durable as seems a bit higher-quailty/ thicker than Toyota's. I have clearbras on all three of my family's vehicles and have been very happy with durability, etc. The only rule is not to run sustained high-pressure washer along the edges. Otherwise you wash/ wax as normal.

My thought would be find an independent to buy and install the protector film. The guy at the dealership that will install yours may or may not do alot of these things, so it may be hit or miss. I would find someone local where you can see some examples of the end result, and they will probably have better / more options to choose from.

Oh, and congrats!

Cool on the pics! :bravo:

Mine came with the "minimal" 3M bra coverage from the dealership, but, I wanted more protection. After looking at "leather bra's," I thought that was too much bra on the front, so I went ahead and did the complete "3M Paint Protection Film, full front, A-Pillars, and front of moonroof." Couldn't be happier, :biggrin2:.

I think you'll find it's worth the trouble. You'll only have to do it once and it's much better than rock chips.

True. I have an e-mail into them to find out how much and what products they offer. Anyone ever heard of Z-Shield? Appears to do the same thing as the 3M but just another brand.

I have AVS with no regrets. Got it from autoanything.com. Congrats on the new Runner!

Hey Congrats! Last I heard you decided that you weren't going to buy so there was a change of heart, great. Who was the dealer that you ended up purchacing from? I was in Syracuse yesterday for a family reunion and it was the perfect trip up from Binghamton. Zero humidity, 82 degrees and no need for AC, moonroof wide open, and cranked up audio with upgraded Kappas in the dash. Nothing could be better.
