Pulling right

Howdy!

Just noticed while I was on the highway doing 70mph that my 2006 SR5 V6 is pulling right if I take both hands of the wheel. the frame is straight, so I was wondering what else could be causing this?

Thanks.

Thanks...the highway was straight, and i tested it at a few different spots. I was thinking tires too. Probably going to start there.

Even if the road is straight, it doesn't mean its level. Road could be canted to one side by a degree or two to help promote water channeling off the road way.

Just get an alignment done if you feel its not driving straight and go from there.

In addition to the alignment, tires, you may think about stuck calipers as well. Mine was pulling left, pulled the tires and saw uneven ware of brake pads. Changed calipers, rotors and all good. If it is stuck calipers, think about 5th gen brake upgrades.

That's a really good call. Went to my mechanic today and he mentioned that I should look at replacing my calipers. Is there a 5th gen brake upgrade thread in this forum?

mine was doing the same thing and I had stuck calipers. so just like you are considering now, I did the 5th gen upgrade and purchased new rotors/brakes/calipers from rockauto.

Tires could be out of balance/alignment. Apparently seizing calipers is an issue with 4th gens too. Not sure if this has been said already.

Mine has literally always done this. Since I bought it 10 years ago. On certain roads it will track straight, but probably like 90% of the time needs a slight correction left. Alignments are always dead nuts, straight frame, never had a stuck caliper, and at least 6 wheel and tire combos that I can think of. Many suspension components swapped out as well. I was thinking about having a custom alignment done next time where they set it up to track slightly left with the wheel straight to see how it does.

I'll also rule out "dog tracking" due increased thrust angle from having a stock length track bar on a lifted vehicle as it did this at stock ride height as well. I've just lived with it for a very long time. Don't love it, but it is what it is.

If you find a fix, let me know.

Absolutely...have you considered that it could be "ghost tacking"? haha

Just make sure you paint the calipers. U can get a caliper paint kit at AutoZone for 20$

The paint is to prevent rust?

haha, nah man. I did think it could have been "tram-lining" when I had my Mud Graps on there, but as far as I can't think back, it's pretty much always done it. Wonder if there's just a way to re-center the steering wheel? I took it off one time when I was chasing a "clacking" in my steering column, but installed it back the same way.

So, there's a difference between pulling to the right and a non-centered steering wheel.

Pulling one direction or the other is what happens when you take your hands off the wheel and let the vehicle drive itself. You can have pulling with a centered wheel.

Conversely, steering wheel centering has to do with the position of the steering wheel when the vehicle is driving straight down the road. You can have a non-centered wheel with no pulling.

Pulling is caused by one or more of the factors stated in this thread. From an alignment standpoint, it's caused by unequal camber or caster (not toe), but other factors may be more important.

A non-centered wheel is caused by unequal adjustment of the tie rods during final toe adjustment. You can have an otherwise perfect alignment and still have a non-centered wheel if the tech isn't careful about that.

Yes. the centric calipers rusted within the first two weeks of being installed. so i had to get all the rust off and paint. when you receive them, take the time to put at least two coats of caliper paint on. in auto zone, they have black/ or red color kits.
