Pulling To Right In 4HI

Hey guys,
I just replaced my front CV's and on a recent trip I placed the rig in 4HI and it now pulls to the right. It's a strong pull too, then when I place in 2HI the steering is dead on. Anyone have this problem before or any ideas of what might be wrong? Thanks

That sounds strange. So, only in 4Hi the problem exists? Not in any other t-case setting?

Does it 1) force you to hold the wheel in one direction, fighting to pull the steering wheel the other direction? Or 2) does the steering wheel just become off-center and if you hold it straight the 4Runner does not travel straight?

People have described both of these conditions as a pull, when a pull is actually only the first condition.

Mine recently was doing the second condition, not fighting, but steering wheel off center when in 4 hi. It was an outer tie-rod going bad and had alot of play in it.

If yours is actually the 1st condition, if you have access I would put it on a lift and run it in 4 hi, comparing the wheel speed of the two front wheels. This is a weird one, if something was dragging, you'd think it would be dragging when the front wheels were not pulling too. Even without a lift, get the front wheels off the ground and compare spinning one vs. the other, that's where I would start to track this down.

Definitely the 1st. It is pulling and I have to fight it to keep it straight. I haven't yet thrown it in 4lo to test it, so I will have to do that and take a look at the wheel spin.

I was only driving about 20 on an icy road and it was all the time. I tried it on a road that was clear of ice and got up to 40 but with the constant correction of the pulling to the right mixed with the constant turns it felt a little unsafe.

I am experiencing this too. Is there an easy way to check a tie-rod, and what would I be looking for?

Since you just replaced the cv axle maybe you have a bad one. My guess would be the left one if it is pulling right.

How long ago did you change them?

Did you change both sides? and if so why both?

This can happen due to bad tie-rod ends but probably from bad control arm bushings.

DUHockey was having this issue. He replaced the LBJs and OTREs and still had it. He (we) replaced the control arm bushings and it cured the issue.

(he was thinking that it was a front diff issue but it doesn't seem like it was)
