Pulsation on Breaking

Hello:

Does anyone experience mild pulsation when breaking?

This only occurs when reducing speed with gentle application of break. It is not very predominate but it is consistently there. It can be easily detected when driving 10km/hr and gently applying break. Although, It could be more noticeable more at times at higher speeds.

I had the dealer check mine today while changing oil. I was told I was the first 4Runer having service there and when they tested their Demo it has they same experience.

They can not see anything wrong and concluded that must be within the normal parameter for this vehicle.

Could others let me know if they have noticed this and if it is normal.

Sounds like warped brake rotors would be my guess. I havent had this problem in my new one yet, but its happened on other vehicles I've owned...and not just 4runners. It usually happens when your brakes are very hot and you hit a puddle and they cool too quickly causing them to warp. The resurfacing of the rotors should be covered by your warranty I would guess?

One can only notice this if the application of break is mild. Depending on peoples style of break application, some may not notice this.

How many miles on your truck? I think I know what you're talking about, and I have the same thing. The brakes take a little getting used to, but they are actually pretty decent.

I have 5300 km on the truck now.

The pulsation last a couple seconds only as correctly indicated by M1911.

Yes, I agree the breaks perform well. I just never had a vehicle with such behavior before.

If the pulsation lasts just a couple seconds and sounds like a fast buzz, that is probably the electric brake boost pump and is normal.

Go drive a demo unit, and see how it behaves.

That is the electric brake booster pump and it is normal.

I am not sure if I would call how to interpret buzzing. The best I can describe is pulsation.

At my dealer, my truck was the first 4Runner to be serviced. So they did compare with the demo and the demo behaved the same (which made me feel better – hopefully normal operation).

I don't know what the cause of your pedal pulsation is; but I can assure you, it's (almost) never going to be rotor warp!

Most likely, it's what you see in the picture below but I'm not going to suggest that. All I'm saying here is that we all can agree it's never (well, almost never) rotor warp.

The first step in fixing a problem is to understand that problem.

My 2010 SR5 4x4 has a light threw forwarding after the truck come to a complete stop then right when i ease off the brake but it didn't happen all the time only in a certain time. It is kind of strange to me because i never have that feeling with any other car that i drove.

Mine does this too... not brakes. Feels to me like it's finally getting around to shifting into low just as I lift off the brake pedal.

I have this too. But I would not call this vibration. I would say it feels more like tire spinning and bumpy road through the brake pedal.
