So, I have a bunch of punk kids who are cutting through my yard. Throwing trash in my yard and knocking over a parts of a paver wall we have at our house. I have posted no trespassing signs all over the property and they continue to do as they wish. We have asked them nicely to stay off our property and they will give you lip which tells me that these kids' parents obviously don't care how they are raising their kids. I would be damned if my son ever talked to an adult the way this kids have.

What would you guys do next? I have had friends suggest bear traps on the paths they are cutting through (obviously jokingly). Some suggest cleaning my guns outside.

You can be held criminally liable, or at least civilly, if you do something similar to this and the kids end up getting hurt. Stupid, but it has happened before.

Your "friends" sound like HORRIBLE people. Why do you have friends like that or is that how you feel also?

Stage 1: Put up a fence.

Stage 2: Get a big loud dog.

You need to make going around your property a more inviting prospect than going through it. I don't recommend anything other than passive measures though. Doing things like going to their parents (who they already don't listen to) or trying to scare them by showing a gun (which they know you aren't going to use) will only invite harassment.

a fence is a good start, better make it at least 6'. even then, expect them to climb over it.

I am not going to place bear traps, that would be idiotic. My friends were obviously joking about that. I however can clean my guns as well as open carry on my property legally. I would never shoot anyone unless they were an imposing threat to me, my family or those under my care.

I you booby trap your property and they get hurt you will go to jail, And then be sued for every thing you have. Call the cops so a report can be filed. Do not do anything stupid. Just have to keep calling the cops, That is about all you can do.

We definitely want a privacy fence but it is a pretty big yard which if I did it myself would cost over 2k to do. But we want it so our two dogs can play more freely. i just don't have that kind of cash to play with at the moment seeing how things keep breaking around the house ( a/c, piping, garage doors, trees that are dead and need cut) you know, the joys of home ownership. :jump:

Pictures would help to give an appropriate response. But like others have said, why are they choosing to cut through your property? Is this a significant shortcut to get from one side to the other?

High fences are great deterrents, or shrubs, or any other appropriate barrier to keep them out. Unfortunately, telling kids to stay off of your property just makes you seem like that mean old guy which can be quickly dismissed. But if you tell them that you will call the cops if it happens again, they will quickly stop.

I was that kid once, minus littering or destroying property. But I thought I could go wherever I please because I was just a lad :laugh: Ah, the good ol' days...

They keep cutting through for a couple of reasons. First one of the kids' backyard fence half down which leads to my neighbors backyard so they are cutting through their yard and continuing through mine. We have a corner lot which to them is apparently too much walking to do.

I have thought about trail cameras to get photos of them to post under the no trespassing signs and give to the authorities. All of my friends who have them are currently in use strapped to trees looking for deer trails and they aren't cheap.

The police have been called on them many of times and they say they cannot do anything unless they can identify them through a photo. Which has happened and the police have still done nothing.

I was a kid once but I respected the wishes of elders because that is what I was taught. Sure we did some stupid things, all kids do, but we still did what we were told to do.

ive been dealing with shitty neighbors, and shitty kids for quite a few years now. cops have been called countless times. after being verbally threatened with a weapon, and telling the LEO's, they didn't care. "just talk"
MAYBE if I said I saw the weapon it would have meant more to them, but threats don't matter, and there is nothing they can do BEFORE something happens.

the fastest way to get the cops out to a situation is to tell them, "if you don't take care of this, I WILL"
that was the fastest response ive ever seen.

Yeah, I am pretty sure a false police report in Florida is a felony. Now if they actually had a gun; different story. But if they were brandishing a gun on my property, there might be a different issue.

I really like the motion sensor water sprinkler idea. Pretty harmless. And helps get the point across to stay out. It would be kind of funny to watch actually. Maybe I get that and find a cheap trail camera so I can watch it go off...
