Purchasing an extended warranty

I live in california and have a new 2011 4Runner. The selling dealership wanted an arm and a leg for an extended warranty. I have read about Troy and Jerry having great deals on the warranties and I have a question:

1) Will a Toyota warranty purchased in another state still cover a California car? My dealer was trying to spin some BS that the out-of-state warranties won't cover the California emissions parts.

That's B.S. Toyota warranty is a Toyota warranty regardless where you buy it from in the U.S.

Yes, I also just bought a 2011 Trail and I specifically asked about using the extended warranty outside my state since I'll be moving in 4 months. He said Toyota Warranties are nationwide, including the Toyota Care that you get. I verified it with a Toyota dealership in the state I'm moving to. So don't be fooled...

I purchased an extended warranty for my '04 Limited. Waste of money. This truck just doesn't break. Oh, I had to replace the front hood supports, since they gave out. But nothing else. 99K miles on it now. It just goes and goes and goes...

I just bought an 08 4R SR5, certified with 33k on it. I spent $800 to couple the 7yr/100k mile powertrain warranty. The way I see it, if anything breaks at all, it costs me a $50 deduct. You can't beat everything covered for 7/100k.

Check the front calipers - they are due to freeze up on you. But other than that I agree they are pretty bomb proof.

Since you do have a new model year, it wouldnt hurt to get the extended warranty. Try to get it as cheap as possible. I paid $1000.00 for mine and i didnt get to use it. But, for an extra $17.00 a month on my car payment, it was worth it knowing i had it.

We here on T4R got a group buy for 7yr/100k no deductible for $835.00 a couple years ago.

some of us purchased it due to failures of XREAS and it's cost to replace. I think that it's an individual preference more than a necessity.

oh, well, the only people that I know that bought 4th gens discoed their Xreas when they installed their lifts so for them I guess it was a non-issue.

most likely you're correct for those....i am in the corner of xreas...like it. also in Alaska we are pretty ruff on our Runners and combine that with the cost of computer repairs it was a no brainer for me....
