Purchasing question for 2008 owners

For those who have purchased a 2008... what kind of deal did you get? Close to invoice?

I'm not seeing any rebates yet. I 'd like to wait until a rebate is offered, but I don't want to wait too long.

I'm finally ready to purchase a 2008, but (of course) I want the best deal possible.

Any input is appreciated.

well i just bought mine a few weeks ago

window sticker was 36,500 and i got it for 31,988
and that was for a v8 sport

I haven't purchased yet (planning to this weekend) but i've been able to get the dealers in the area to $200 over invoice.

i know the dealers are dealing better on the 2007
mine was a 2008 i feel like i got a good deal
not sure what invoice is.. im a service manager for
a dodge dealer and most of are cars/trucks in
that price range will only have about 3500-4500
mark up.

sorry i should have clarified...the offer i received was for a 2008 V6 4WD 4Runner Sport (including JBL, extra value package, tow hitch, 115V, DRL, Valor Tip and carpets). Sticker: $35,675/Invoice: $32,179 (including $682 for WA advertising). So you are right, the mark up is close to $3500.

darkie sounds like we have the same goodies on the 4runners..
mine also came with the upgraded sill plates on the doors entrys
not sure if i like them or not but there on. lol otherwise very close stickers.. what color did you get . mine is the silver v8

ha, yeah my dealer said that he'll throw in the sill plates if i signed the papers this weekend (which i was planning to do anyway). Don't care either way but i'm not going to say no to free stuff.

I was on the fence with silver and galactic gray for about 2 weeks. Although i like silver, i'm going with galactic gray.

yup same two colors i was looking for , i could not find anyone with a 08 sport v8 im not sure why they are hard to find
i could find the v8 sr5 and the limt v8 but not sport
so i could not really drag my feet too long.. only good thing is the silver matches my corolla good being they are both silver
plus its a easy color to keep clean lol . good luck on buying yours try and get some other freebies out of them like oil changes etc

not sure if your going to get a service contract but i
bought the toyota platnum 7 year 100k 0 deduct for
945.00 i was told that was a great deal. i didnt get it at the dealer i bought my runner from being they didnt sell the factory extended warranty and if your ever going to buy one only get the factory one so i went to a dealer i worked at about 10 years ago and they said they gave me a steel of a deal on the contract
i wish they would of had the truck i would of bought it from them .

must be based on the area because in my area each dealership had at least had one '08 sport v8 in either color. That's why i was really considering Silver because it would have fit my lifestyle (i work alot, it rains quite frequently here, i drive 50 miles a day for work, go up to the mountains every weekend during snowboard season, etc) but everytime i went to the dealership there was someone picking up their new silver 4Runner. I took it as a sign..lol

I didn't get a bargain on the vehicle itself (bought a '08 Sport 4x4 v6 in Titanium Metallic) but I got a killer deal on the car I traded in! The car was in an accident and I figured it'd be a pain to try and sell privately. The stealership I bought it from would only give me $12,500 for it on trade and they knew about the accident. I ended up getting $17,800 for it and that also saved me $1,600+ in taxes. I originally figured I'd get about $15,000 on trade-in (that' s KBB's GOOD trade-in value) on the high-end.
I just look at it as getting that $15,000 for the car and the extra money got bumped off the MSRP, and, well..., I was pretty darn happy with the deal! Got rid of the car and got myself a REAL vehicle!

p.s. just to clear my name... the accident in the car was a hit and run on new years eve and WASN'T my fault! I was coming home from work and was cut off on an icey bridge (my front end made contact with the backside of the other vehicles rear end as it merged into me. It pushed my front end over and sent me sideways spinning into a guard rail. The other vehicle fishtailed A LOT but didn't lose control and then took off. They never caught the minivan bas**** either! It was an older ford minivan and dark blue'ish green or green color... and on the rear i'm sure had damage and silver paint! grrr...
p.s.s. I HATE minivans!

I guess I'll just start looking now. I think I'm going to try the internet/email approach, including out of town dealerships.

That's how i got the deal i did. I sent out requests for quotes to all the dealers in the area and just made them compete for my business. the entire process takes about a week depending on how responsive their internet depts are. the good thing is that they assume you've done the research online and will start off with $500 over invoice (well at least in my area).

You can just lock it to the floor if you wish not to use it (a cargo net attaches to it too) and you lose... what... maybe a 1/4 of an inch of cargo space (in height) with it there. Maybe it'll come in handy one day... *shrugs* In the meantime it really doesn't hurt anything.

But I want to put a heavy duty mat back there. Some people report that the mats don't fit well over it. I also wonder how much weight can be loaded on top of it (in the down position)? It can't be as much as without it (bags of mulch, etc.).
