I am wondering if the red coilovers would take some black paint?
or would it come off? I would like them black instead of red?

You can also buy them in silver. Attached is the link to a guy a know who opted for silver, blends in nicely and is probably more durable than painting black

My guess is that it would come off. Even the red was coming off a bit when I was installing. The silver was coming off too actually.

A long time ago LR had a problem with their UCA's. The bushing's if I remember, but the quickly and very openly addressed the problem and now many people run their product with zero complaints. In fact some believe them to be best for getting proper alignment. There's plenty of info about them on other forums. They're a great product.

The only problems I've heard reported with the LR UCA's were a bad batch of ball joints a couple of years ago and were immediatlely replaced under warranty.About half the guys that are lifted over on the 120 forum are running them and without problems.
I still have a new set of LR's that I'm going to put on this weekend until I rebuild my Total Chaos's.I'll let you know if I notice any difference.
My TC UCA's uniballs sqeaking and squaking noise is driving me nuts .The noise is coming from the Uniball teflon bushings after they got doused in sandy mud. I tried relubing them with silicon dri-slide per TC and the squak comes back in a day or two. In their defense the whole top of the ball was caked with mud and I did buy them used over on the Taco forum.The guy said he only had them 6 months but I suspect otherwise as I notice a little play in the uniballs.

Noise from the ball joints seems to be hit or miss with TC. Some guys get them and some never have them now matter how hard they wheel.
Jesse, what dont you like about the design on the LR UCA's? They are much more stout than my stock ones were and fully adjustable allowing for proper alignment after lifting.

Yup I have about 8,000 miles on mine. Grease them regularly and never had any squeaking.
I just don't like the way they are adjusted using that big nut and bolt. I prefer uniball design of the tc or similar. I'm also obviously biased. But I agree they are much better then a Toyota stock uca.

maybe you could tell harper what kind of grease your using. I cant remember off the top of my head what most of the guys on TW use but its not the one mentioned above.

You can't grease the uniball as there aren't any Zerk fittings for it and that's where it's making noise. Pat at TC said to spray the uniballs with a dry lube so as not to attract dirt.
Quiets them down for a few days but going on a 3-4000+ mile journey next month and don't need the hassle/noise. Plus , I want to check out the LR ones, as I already have a new set , and also since I recommended them on other peeps word.I'm going to measure to see if there is a wheel travel difference between the 2 as the TC's do give alot of travel with the uniball design.
I'm getting 2 new uniball ball joints and the teflon bushings from TC. They have a c-clip holding them on the bottom side and and then press them out/in. Chimyz is sending me an extra set of the polyurethane bushings for the long bolts he had for TC's he used to have. So they will be good as new when rebuilt. Thanks again for that,chimyz!
Like I said, I think these things have several years of use , not the 6 months the guy who sold them to me said . There was some play in the uniballs as mentioned.

Sorry I meant lube, not grease. I'm pretty sure the guys with TC with a dry teflon lube. Not sure which one though. AS far as travel goes, the TC will give you more travel than the LR's due to the uni ball. Something to keep in mind, do you have the extended travel coilovers? If so it's recommended that you run a uni ball UCA to utilize the extra down travel. If not the LR's are great, stout, no noise, adjustable for camber and caster...

I changed out the Total Chaos UCA's last night for the Light Racing ones without a hitch.
Took about an hour and that was with rotating the tires front to back too. I went back in this morning after doing some test rides and adjusted the caster to a +1 and I originally set it for 0. Also adjusted the camber a smidge to give a wee little Neg camber .Taking it to a frame shop next week to double check the alignment but rides really nice and straight now. I really like how easy they are to adjust and very good quality so far.
I do have the extended travel coilovers and thought the TC's would give more travel with the uniball. I checked the wheel travel by jacking it up so the front wheels were barely off the ground before taking off the wheels with the TC's on. After I changed UCA's to the LR's and when I reinstalled the wheels it was exactly the same.I thought the wheels would have a bigger gap under them with less wheel travel but not so,another case closed for myth busters!

Any thoughts on what is limiting the travel? The UCA or the coilovers? If I don't need the reservoirs, no sense in paying the extra $$$. Nicely done, Harper.
Thanks buddy. I was wondering if uni's really did give you that much more articulation/travel. Good to know...For some reason I really like the fact that LR's are sealed and require so much less maintenance.
Now the true ? is how much more travel are you really getting with the extended travel ICON's??????? Would love to have you and Jesse measure them both up so we could see the difference

Overland doesn't have anything yet for the 2010 4Runner. That's probably why there is not much talk going on. There is nothing to talk about yet.
I'm waiting patiently for them to get something together. Andries has been working on it though so hopefully they'll have something within the next couple months.

Are new UCA's necessary with the Toytec Ultimate lift? If so is it an alignment issue?

probably not necessary. I'm sure you would be fine without them. But you could encounter problems like not getting your alignment in spec, or wandering on the highway, to name a few.
I didn't drive mine lifted without UCA's, so i'm not sure what impact they had. I think Harper said he could tell a big difference after installing them (the TC) after the lift.
