Push button, keyless start

Hmmm, wait a minute..................

Thanks guys! I'm going to pull the trigger and will update.

Thanks for keeping us updated!!

I can't stop drooling either man!
Nice find Cookie!

Thanks guys, I like toys

BUT........................................................

From the site: FAQ, Advanced Keys . Click on the FAQ button, here you will find FAQs regarding the operation of the button. Seems very straightforward. My parents and brothers cars and SUVs have them. Anyway:

I'm going to assume that MOST know how to use these button ignitions. Ever since the Toyota acceleration fiasco, Toyota announced that in case your car "runs away", you can still turn the car off by pressing and holding the button for 3 (or more) seconds. I haven't tried to contact this company if this does what the FACTORY ignition system does. If not, deal breaker. I know it's a 1:1,000,000 chance that I'm going to have to kill the engine while I'm moving, but every since my 5 month old daughter was born, I've been very safety conscience.

Thoughts?

I have been very pleased with the Viper system that came with my T4R. However, you must insert the key once inside the vehicle and tap the brake pedal to release the Viper system from complete control. It's handy when warming up the truck and I use it often.

Shift into neutral and pull over?

Thanks for keeping us updated!!

Any updates?

No Way!!!! I want to do this mod super bad, how can I do this?

Me too, I'm on their website almost everyday, hahaahh

I contacted the guys in Kazakhstan/ Russia and they pointed me to here: Auto-innovatio

It's the same product as in the YouTube video earlier in this thread and I believe the same as the owner of the 5th Gen used. I read a bunch this morning on installs of different vehicles and the owner(?) of that place (auto-innovatio.com) Sean seems very helpful. People are saying he has helped them install it over the phone and even talked to shops who ran into trouble installing it. Of course you'd need to buy it from him and not Amazon (product) or someplace else.

Really looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

You installing it yourself?

No UPDATE on the "advanced keys" website. I sent them 2 emails with questions and have gone unanswered. Its a shame really, looks like an excellent mod, most likely would've purchased it.

Update:

Advanced Keys finally emailed me back. My only questions were 1) to find an installer/retailer in my area, 2) If it had the same functions as an OEM push button start. Mainly, if while driving, in an event of an emergency, the ignition can be turned off while pressing the button for more than 3 seconds. I know if I ever had a run away car to throw it in neutral, but I wanted to be sure. Anyway, YES it does. 3) Last question was if it completely replaces the key. It does.

If my 4Runner were a "weekend" or third vehicle, I would totally do this, but its not. I can live with my radio/nav/HIDs not working correctly, but this is messing with the ignition system which is HUGE in my book. I would HATE it if I was at the beach with my family (4 hours away from home) and my runner not turn on.

Anyway, the jury is still out on this for me. I'll continue to keep on eye on this. Like I mentioned before, my parents cars (Lexus/Toy) have them and is very convenient. If anyone can add to this, please do.

In addition to the push button start, you would probably have to switch out the front door handles. The vehicle unlocks when you pull the door handle and you have to swipe your fingers across the side of the handle to lock. It seems like a complicated mod.

They probably do one of a couple things. First they can simply disable the mechanical pin/lock that engages the steering wheel and locks it up (this can be done in a multitude of ways if you think about it) Second they possibly install either a new ignition switch with a built in actuator (much like the newer push button vehicles utilize) or they have an add on actuator that disables the pin when the switch is cycled.
