Push button, keyless start

Hello,

I have an '07 Sport and just took it to the dealer for 75k mile service. They gave me a 3rd gen Prius as a loaner. I had never driven one and really liked the keyless sensor and push button start - basically, you never take your keys out of your pocket.

I have a black 4runner and have definitely knicked my door with my keys by mistake (despite using the key fob) so besides the features of the Prius being neat, I see a practical benefit (rationalizing the expense).

So anyways, I've been searching and have not found anyone with a 4th gen installing such a system but this guy with a 5th gen did: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-g...ess-entry-push-button-start-remote-start.html

I wanted to query the forum to see if anyone with a 4th gen has? What do you think of it?

Also, even if you haven't, where do you think is best to put the button?

Thanks everyone! Love the site!

EDIT: Here is a YouTube video if it in action: http://youtu.be/m0Y9IYD6pFs

RE: Remote start, 4th GEN

I have the Valet system installed in my 4runner. I can remote start and stop the 4Runner and thus I was able to preheat my 4runner in the cold VA winters, and cool off the 4Runner in the...year round hot weather in San Diego. The stock key fob still works the same as the Valet fob, so I can still hit the rear view window down remotely. I really don't even need the Valet FOB. I know the Viper system can do that and much more with your phone, android or Iphone based. They offer both apps. Push button start from your phone. I really like the remote start on my 4runner. Even with the additional features they have introduced over the years, I still appreciate what I have and it has been well worth it. Yeah, Valet, and Viper are the two systems that I know will work.

Whoa.....are you saying that you have the factory remote start for the later 4runners in yours?? I have the VIP3200 and would like the factory one, not an aftermarket.

When you remote start, do you need to put your keys in afterwards?

I have the factory installed remote and yes you need to put the key in and turn two clicks because as soon as you hit the brakes it will shut the engine off. I just got my truck used with remote start from factory and have not figured it out yet. Several times the truck has started on its own. Just today my fob was on the workbench and I hit the unlock button on the drivers door to unlock the back door and the engine started! Also, when inserting the key in the back hatch to roll down the window, the alarm goes off???? Several times the truck has either started or alarm goes off and I have no idea how to control anything.
I am at the point where I want to disconnect the alarm and the remote!

I've got the smart key / keyless start on our new Maxima, and since driving it can't tell you how many times I've gotten into my 4Runner and tried to push the imaginary start button instead of putting in the key! LOL!

I too have looked into installing one of these aftermarket systems. I think it would be very tempting to remove the ignition switch, and put the button there. Of course I would have to look into this a lot more to see if the key hole would still need to be available (key chip) or what.

Edit: Just watched the last vid posted which has the 4th gen in it and noticed they installed it where I mentioned - the keyhole. Cool!

Re:

I am not sure what the factory model was. I had mine installed from the dealership. I just know mine is from Valet and my stock key FOB works. Yes I have to put the key in, just like someone else said, otherwise the brake will kill the engine. The instructions say VALET. That's all I know. I'm deployed right now but if you want the instructions I'll post them when I get back in 4 months. 3 clicks I think to turn on, and 3 clicks to turn off using the lock button. You can then set up the unlocking/locking doors presets to do what you want. Like if I start the engine will all the doors lock or unlock, or just the driver's door, etc. Right now just the driver's door unlocks. I have to hit the unlock for the passenger doors. I am reminded I need to change my settings, when I shift to park, my doors unlock. I don't want that living in SoCal...

Check this vid out:www.zhanauto.kz - YouTube

Its a 4th gen with what looks to be the same system as that 5th gen. Too bad the guy is speaking a different language but at least you know its possible.

I can understand him perfectly - he is saying "This is awesome. You want one. Buy one." Over and over. Fortunately my wife understood him too.

emcdemc,

Please keep us posted. I'm interested to know what you actually pulled the trigger on? Did you contact/ order from the company in Kazakhstan?

Thanks guys! I'm going to pull the trigger and will update.

I contacted the guys in Kazakhstan/ Russia and they pointed me to here: Auto-innovatio

It's the same product as in the YouTube video earlier in this thread and I believe the same as the owner of the 5th Gen used. I read a bunch this morning on installs of different vehicles and the owner(?) of that place (auto-innovatio.com) Sean seems very helpful. People are saying he has helped them install it over the phone and even talked to shops who ran into trouble installing it. Of course you'd need to buy it from him and not Amazon (product) or someplace else.

Really looking forward to seeing how this turns out.
