Push prize?

My wife and I are expecting a new baby and she very tactfully worked into our conversation another "push prize". This whole idea pisses me off and I hoped it was over with the first baby. Now here I am being pressured to buy jewelry??? This is from the same woman who's constantly asking " how much did that part for your truck cost?" Or "didn't you just buy something for your truck like a month ago". But how can you argue with a woman who's carrying your child?? Funny thing is even I tighten the spending a little with a new baby on the way. Women put the spending into overdrive instead. But in the end, I know it's in my best interest to cave.

My sister-in-law mentioned a push gift to my brother when they were nearing their due date. His response was, "I did some pushing 9 months ago, and you didn't get me any gifts."

He also caved and got her some jewelry.

Woh! What the hell is this push gift?
Congrats on yours kc. My wife is 8 weeks preg and had been begging me for 3yrs for a kid. I haven't heard of this and think it's kinda goofy. Hope my wife doesn't get any ideas. The child is gift enough

Never heard of this "push prize" thing before..

If it makes you feel any better, every time I mention a motorcycle my gf puts up her left hand and points at her ring finger.....

Who calls it a "push prize"? Is that your wife, or is it you? And what's wrong with showing your wife a little appreciation for bearing your child?

This thread weirds me out.

I googled it. Apparently it's gaining popularity especially in the states. I asked my mom about it and she said she got flowers after she had me. I think it's a little ridiculous. I could see a small heartfelt gift but not a 5,000 dollar ring.

She is going to be expecting YOU to have the idea without hints being dropped.

Should you not produce unprovoked, you will suffer immeasurably. Like a constant dull ache that will last years.

wow...first I've heard of a "push prize"...I mean I know mothers usually got flowers in the hospital, but buying jewelry???? that's certainly a new one on me. have fun with that one.

a few things come to mind:

Rooster runs the henhouse

if your woman isn't happy, you aren't happy

congrats on the baby

and my favorite - buy her something better than she wanted and then you get to get bigger and better stuff for the 4runner:clap2:

You guys are cracking me up. Thanks for letting me vent! I'll deifnitely buy her something but I'm still not a fan of this new trend. I guess it's the pressure/ expectiation I don't like more than anyting.

I agree. This is a stupid trend. What ever happened to being happy you have a child? Now you have to get something for it? Is like getting a cookie every time you use the potty. I don't have a problem getting my wife a gift but to be expected to is ridiculous

Push prize, wtf is that?! Never heard of it and I thought I was up with all of it lol. We just had our 1st a couple years ago and she never asked for a thing. Having the baby should be enough prize for her, if she needs something else that seems to be a personal issue. Sure, they go through he!! that no man can imagine, but to ask for a 'push prize' is a little 'pushy'. Just tell her to get a C-section, no worries on either end :)

It's an unwritten rule.... Like never hit the goalie...... Shouldn't have to "ask"

For a guy with quite a laundry list of crap you've added to your new truck i'd think you'd have given a little priority where it is due.

Congrats on the soon to be new addition! From a 3rd party perspective, I'd just let it go and get her something nice that she likes and/or has been wanting; it does not have to be big. I think in this situation it's more the gesture than the actual gift.

Have you shared this perspective of child birth with your wife, and can you tell me how does she feel about it? :)
