Putco Nova LEDs (Picture heavy)

Putco has released their newest replacement LEDs, the Nova. I got them from XenonDepot and as always excellent service and fast shipping.

These are 3157 replacement LEDs and they come in a variety of colors. It's best to use a matching color on the LED as the lens color itself, i.e. red LEDs for a red lens, etc. (unless the lens is clear).

While these LEDs are not necessary for a 2006-09 4Runner or earlier 4th gens. This is an option (for cars like mine that never had LED taillights from the manufacturer) to get the benefits of LED technology, faster on/off and longer bulb longevity. However, not all replacement LEDs are created equal. I got these Putco Nova's to replace V-LED 3157 that are burning out.

It's hard for the camera to capture the brightness of the light, but I can say that the light is a much red'er glow (less orange) than regular bulb or V-LED replacement.

The arrangement and configuration of the LEDs. There are three front firing LEDs and four rows of two radially firing LEDs around the circumference.

I had to replace the bulbs more than once and got tired of having to check if they are out (usually only notice them if someone tells me or if I'm backing up against a wall). Besides, why give an officer and excuse to pull me over.

I replaced them with V-LED replacements earlier this year. These are pics of the some of them that are already out.

Dang, Uneek, I can't see a difference. I looked at your page for about 10 minutes and theres only one difference I see and, by my eye, and it looks like the regular light is brighter...? :shrug:

This is the picture I was talking about.

I think sticking with the regular LED's you get a brighter light...am i wrong?

The "regular" is an incandescent bulb. It's hard to accurately capture "color".

The LEDs give a more red'er color and it illuminates instantly. For me, the main reason for the switch from regular bulbs is the reliability of LED (same can't be said about the V-LED's) and not having to deal with the hassle of burnt out taillights of giving officers a reason to pull me over.

My Camry, like most of the 5th gen Camrys I've seen on the road, likes to "eat" taillights.

Ah! So less for brightness but rather more for reliability and color. Gotcha.
