Q: re skid plate fit for 99 SR5

Hi:

i have a 99 SR5 V6 auto, and tore the factory skid plate off... the back half of the two front plates...the forward half of the front two plates, under the radiator, is ok).

There is a loyal member here who has the two factory forward plates for sale; they came off his 2002 Limited V6.

QUESTION: will his plates fit my 99? The local dealer checks parts by VIN # and wouldn't tell me if the 2002 plates will fit a 99 (they want to sell me new ones!)... the question is the location of the bolt holes and do they match, I assume.

off topic but when did they start putting 2 skid plates on the 4runners mine only has 1 but bolts for a second

Many people (myself included) ditch the rear skid because it's useless and gets in the way of oil changes and stuff. I would give you mine but I haven't seen it for years. Just leave it off, your truck will never know the difference.

You could always save up like I am and get Budbuilt skids.

ha, speaking of buds... aint takin that one off to do oil changes.. I have to take mine in for the first oil change since I got my buds and not sure how the stealership will respond for that one.

if you are going to wheel I would put the rear skid on, any protection is better than none, but if you arent, then leave it off, better access to the undercarriage!

Du, man, you gotta start changing your own oil bud. You must be getting reemed at the stealer! Some protection is better than none, but that skid isn't worth the hassle for me.

And yeah, bootown is right, they're the same throughout the years

Really Shon? The budbuilts didn't have a hole for the oil to drain? I'd cut one if I were you... I haven't changed my oil with the new skid I have yet but it's got a hole so I will be doing it by myself like usual

the buds have a hole to drain the oil... but its really small and I can imagine alot of the oil not making it thru the hole initially...

Ill find out what the dealer says, its not worth it to do my own oil, in an apartment, nowhere to do it, Ive paid my dues doing oil changes. not anymore.

The stock skid has a hole for oil to drain also though, right between the two skids. and its way bigger than the one on the Buds...

The stealership shouldn't give you any guff about taking that skid plate off. At least they've never give me any.

It's actually kind of fun watching them struggle to put the skid plate back. Takes like 3 of them two do so, when it only takes a 125 lb individual to do it without all the fancy equipment.

you let them take the buds off to do an oil change?? I dont know if I want them taking off my steering rack bolt so they can change my oil...

They don't take off the steering rack bolts. The L-angle stays in place they just unbolt that angle from the plate.
