Ques on V6 2WD/4WD switch controls?

Ill be purchasing a 05 Sports Ed v6 4X4 soon and had a question on the above? Since the control is a switch, just how reliable is it? I mean, when u switch the vehicle from 2WD to 4WD, does it respond immediately every single time u make the switch?

I was talking to some of my co-workers the other day and they were saying a 'true' 4WD (e.g. v8 engines) is far better than a computer controlled 4WD system as the computer has to 'think' and than engage the hardware where as in v8, the 4WD is always on.

So back to the question, does the 2WD/4WD switch works the way its supposed to?

Thanks

Yes the switch works great. When switching from 2WD to 4WD, the 4WD dash light blinks for a few seconds and stays on solid when fully engaged. If there is a problem and it doesn't switch, the dash ligh will continue to blink. When you switch back, the dash light will blink and then go off. If for whatever reason it is not switching modes, stop the car and put it in neutral and it'll switch over.

You should be traveling less than 62 MPH and no hard turns while it is switching over.

4WD in the V6/V8 is completely the same so you can technically drive the V6 in 4HI all the time if you so choose.

Welcome to the boad...

Congrats on the soon-to-be!

question for everyone... and i'm sure that other people would want to know is...

Is it good for the vehicle to be travelling in 4HI (V6) instead of 2wd on dry pavement or in a sense.. everyday driving? I heard that it wasn't good for the 4wd system or something....

it's been said in other threads expressing this concern that it is fine for 99+ 4runners because of the center diff. the previous generation 4runners did not have center diffs. so driving them in 4wd on dry pavement was bad. our 4runners work like full time 4wd 4runners when put in 4wd hi.
