I have a question I need answered.

Is a 2002 4Runner "Sport Edition" considered......

a) SR5 with a Sport Package?

or

b) Limited with a Sport Package?

Or could it be both?

I believe "A" but in 2002 I think they started selling Sport Editions as a seperate trim. My 01 is a Sport Edition but is a SR5.

It's an SR5, but a Sport Edition. If you looked up your VIN it would come up as an SR5. Came with a few standard extras. In '02 that would be color keyed flares, bumpers and grille, hood scoop, silver dash trim, sport cloth seats as well as bigger brakes. You could get extras like leather as an option.

Thanks for the replys. I was looking up an online value of a 4Runner I'm scoping out. In the selections it made a difference on SR5 and Limited. Re-looking at the for sale ad, it does say "SR5 Sport Edition" anyways. So it's all good.

Now wish me luck with this. If all goes well, we'll be adding our 2nd 4Runner - and a real beauty too. My wife will drive it as her daily driver for now. Then in a year or 2, we're going to get a 4th Gen for her - and I'll get the '02. And my daughter will be old enough to drive by then, and she can have my '97. Family of 4Runners......I love it!!!

While its not a limited, sport editions still pull way more than a regular old SR5 when for sale. So if that is what you were asking about, then yeah. Its priced similar to limiteds.

Yeah, this particular online value site shows a difference of $675 (Cdn) between SR5 and Limited (not including all the extra options). Then shows the "Sport Package" adding another $325 (Cdn). So even though it's saying an SR5 with the Sports Package is $350 less than a Limited, I've still seen Sports go for more than Limited T4Rs.

It's just a basic guide anyways. I'm using the numbers it generated as a bit of a bargaining chip - as the dealer is asking a pretty high number for the '02.

Very close to pulling the trigger on this '02. If it happens, I'll link some photos of it.

There's only 1 issue left yet. It looks like it hasn't had the 'Timing Belt and Water Pump' done yet (trying to get that 100% confirmed). And it's at 180k Kms (112k miles). So I'm trying to get the dealership to foot some of that bill. The price we had settled on (prior to me getting word on the belt and pump) was a pretty sweet deal - so even if they cover half the fix, I'll be pretty happy.

Hope this goes through.

Officially pulled the trigger on this '02 today.

Pretty excited to finally find a nice '02 'Sport Edition' here in Canadark. They seem to be so rare (especially where I live). Hopefully they can get it delivered by sometime next week. I have a couple small things planned right away - but nothing too extensive.......yet!! This will be a daily driver for my wife at this stage. I'll be taking the running boards off for sure. And just doing a bit of clean-up. But in a year or 2 this 'runner will see some fun things happen to it.

It's going to be a bit odd to have my wife get the nice vehicle, and me stick with my older T4R. But she's always had to put up with the non-cool cars and such so far. So this time, she gets treated. Besides, within a couple years we plan to get a 4th Gen - and she'll use that, while I take over this sweet '02.

Can't wait to see this parked next to my ride....

Not usually a fan of the red on a stock Runner, but I really like it with the painted flares, bumpers and grille!

Any accidents? Could just be the pic, but it looks like about 3 shades of red. Good looking truck though, congrats on the new addition!

I was thinking the same thing. Front fender and drivers door? Maybe it's the picture angle. Just bringing it to your attention. Does look like a nice truck if no accidents.

Yeah, no accidents. It's the angle of the photo. And it was overcast and raining the day the photos were taken. I've seen a number of different angles, and it's all good.

Tilt, not to rain on your parade but that's definitely been painted if not hit. The hood is high in the back, low in the front, the little groove in the lower doors doesn't look like it lines up either. Be careful man, there are a lot of vehicles out there with nasty histories.

Nope. I purchased a 'CarProof' report on it (not thru the dealership), and here's a direct quote from the "Accident and Collision" section....

"Accident Records -
CarProof.com has searched over 35 million insurance claims and policy history records from the insurance industry in Canada. NO record of any accident has been found."

Not seeing what you're seeing.

Don't rely solely on those reports. It'll only hit if there was an insurance claim.

Like I said, not trying to get you down, just trying to help out a fellow forum member. I have a very good eye for this stuff and I wasn't the only one to see it. We're just looking out for you.

It's all good. I'm pretty confident it's a good unit. My '97 is very rough and tumble, and she's still a beauty. I've looked over the photos pretty close, and it looks pretty straight to me. For what I paid, and what it is.....I'm doing pretty well.

^ Good deal Tilt. I hope she treats you well. Any plans for mods to it?

The wife will drive this 4Runner for the next while - and she's not a big fan of heavy mods. The running boards will be removed fairly quickly. And she's in full agreement on that. When it becomes my main vehicle, it'll see a few things for sure. There's a 4Runner from here on T4R.org that is sort of my dream look. I can't remember who owns it (or even if they're current on here) - but I downloaded a photo they once put up. In my eyes it's one of the best looking 4Runners I've seen. Just super clean lines, but agressive all in one. So I'll be doing a lift (I think it's about a 6" lift) - and new rims/tires. Not sure what else though. I may consider aftermarket front and rear bumpers - but we'll see. It'll be fun building it all in my mind over the next while.

Here's a photo of that 4Runner from here that I love. Maybe someone knows who it is.
