Question about 2nd gen

Hey guys, this is my first post. Let me start by saying that my 1990 toyota 4runner is my first car when i turned 16, i am now 26, and i have no intention of getting rid of her. My question is this, i live in oklahoma city / Yukon, oklahoma and, while there are quite a few 2nd gen 4runner running around, i see very few with the spare tire mounted to the back tail gate. is this model of 4runner rare, or maybe just a late or early option on the 90's that didn't sell well? thanks.

It was just an option that wasn't really common. Don't know if it was because people didn't like it, or if they just didn't import that many. Just more without than with it.

I bought my first Toyota 4x4 in 83, and I still have it. It's been rebuilt several times over the years and currently has a new frame, a later 2WD cab and bed, a Buick 231 V6, a TH350 trans, and a lot more. Who knows whats next.

My '95 does not have the rear tire carrier. It's mounted under, and is rusted and frozen to the frame. Getting a new hardware is on my short to do list.
Had a '92 Pathfinder years ago with the rear tire carrier, loved it.

No other second generation 4Runners in my area have the rear carrier.

so it sounds like it isn't a very common thing on these 2nd gen's. i love mine. i don't know how many times it has save me from some body damage. i have backed into a car, a railing, i have had cars back into me, no damage at all.
