question about 4th gen calipers and warranty

Im going to change my front rotors and pads, but ive got a feeling my calipers are prolly have a piston thats going to be seized. Im getting awful shudder under breaking like my rotors are warped, but ive also read that this will happen with a seized caliper (or because the seized caliper warped the rotor).

For the sake of this question, lets just say that my calipers indeed are seized I want to change the rotors and pads myself because even if the dealer warranties my calipers it wont cover that.

Can I just take in the sized calipers and have them give me new ones, or do they actually have to take them off my vehicle and replace them? I dont care if by them not installing them means they wont be warrantied in the future as my warranty is going to be expired before thats an issue.

sorry for the relatively dumb question, its just thats its not a question that turns up an answer on google, and im not about to call the toyota dealer and ask.

your best bet would be to go to a auto parts store like AutoZone or similar since they have lifetime warranties on their remanufactured calipers. This is a problem that seems to recur in these rigs so might as well be able to get the next set free. Just save the receipt in glove box or somewhere safe.

If you are comfortable doing the work then that's the way I would go.

Do a search, there is a lot of information about the rotors on these 4th gens. I replaced both my of front rotors on an 03 I used to have.

yeah, ive done some searches, and am now well aware of the caliper problem, which is why im pretty sure they are gunna need to be replaced.

Ive just been trying to find out if the dealership actually has to take them off and put the new ones on, in order for it to be covered by the warranty and thought maybe someone here might know the answer.

Jon speaks from experience. He graciously gave me a ride to Autozone last year for my yearly caliper, rotor, and brake pad change, and we were in and out of the store in 5 minutes, no receipt necessary. It is a very good method.

If you are warrantied still, DO NOT touch them until Toyota inspects them and tells you whether they will cover them or not. Because this is a common issue, brake seizure is usually covered under warranty. Don't do what I did by replacing the brakes and then trying to get Toyota to pay for the parts you bought.

Yeah if you're under warranty obviously let Toyota do it all. Mine had all 4 calipers replaced or rebuilt and the bill was astronomical I'm sure. So far they seem to still be doing OK at 113K. The rebuild was around 70K or so.
