Question about actual tire size...

I just bought 285/75r16's. I couldn't find the actual specs on this tire. They are definity dakota MT's, made for Pep Boys by Cooper. I did a lot of research and it seems most tires this size are between 32.6-32.8 After having my tires mounted and with a psi of 40, they only measure just under 32". The guy at Pep Boys said they have been noticing this for years, they will take a older tire off a car and replace it with the same size, and the newer one is actually smaller. Any body out there noticed their tires aren't the actual size stated on the spec? My buddy has the same size in a different brand, with who knows how many miles and his measure like 31.5. Do they just donut when mounted and under the weight of a car? Were they actually 32.8 or so when made. Thanks for any help guys

2 cents...I think that vendors do not adhere to strict sizing standards and it is probably related to marketing. I.e. Golf shafts listed as "regular" - one vendor "stiff" shaft is another vendor's "reg".

i was just curious wat other peoples 285/75r16 r measuring at, if you got em, measure em and post it up. its prolly not a bad thing mine dont measure 33" on the rim, because there would be a lot more trimming needed :) But then again, thats why I went with that size, beacsue I wanted a 33' tall tire

evening bump, id luv to get some measurements from others who have new or near new 285/75r16. From the ground to the top of your tread, and wat psi are you running?
