Question about cupholder size for a DIY laptop stand

Hi all,

I'l be picking up an 02 sport here in a few weeks and will be driving it back from Texas to Colorado. I'd love to be able to mount a portable dvd player or a netbook in it for the trip... so i saw this article and figured I could give this a shot:

Since i don't yet have a 4runner, I was hoping someone might be able to tell me the diameter/depth of the cupholder so I could get the right pipe and fittings setup. That way when I take posession fo the car I can just pop that thing in and start the drive home!

Anyone done something like this? Looks kinda cheep, but it should at leat work for a road trip!

ok i took two measurements with a set of calipers, yes over kill but it's all i had on me, and it was kind of an awkward spot to measure from so it's pretty darn close and pipe only comes in certain sizes so i do feel this may help.


first measurement on the most forward cupholder is 3.1070 inches or 78.93 mm
the second measurement for the rear most cup holder is 3.1405 or 79.97mm

chances are the hole is 80mm but i couldn't get the calipers to seat all the way but pretty darn close, i scratched the plastic a little trying to rotate the calipers in the "bore" to get the most accurate measurement.


so take these numbers for what you will but they are pretty darn close.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to it actually. I love road tripping. Thanks for getting so close on theose measurements... that's the best I could ask for! Yep, a writeup shall be in order.

Now to figure out how much rise I am going to have to have to clear the shifter and how far from the cupholder to the stereo (I figured I coudl just have the stand end at about there.... good times.
