Question about doing a lift

Hi, I want to do a lift on my T4R and When it comes to lifts I'm completley lost. I have a 2004 2wd v6. A lift around 2'' sounds good because it still needs to fit in the garage. So, here it goes,

Where can I buy a lift kit?
Do i need JUST a lift kit or do I need to buy other parts too (coils, shocks, etc.)?
If I need extra parts, how many and how much will it cost. (I'm on a budget)
Could my local toyota dealer or toyota mechanic install it for me?

Sorry for a bunch of questions. I really need some advice on what to do. Thanks!

With a 2WD, i wouldn't expect you to be doing too much off roading. with that said, i think a spacer lift would be an economical approach to what you're looking for. daystar makes a 1.5/2.5 (front/rear) spacer lift as well as a 2/3 spacer lift. both are fairly simple to install with normal hand tools, especially if you don't have XREAS to deal with. there are pretty detailed instructions along with pictures on the forum that could walk you through the process. anytime you pay someone to do it, the cost goes up. with either of those kits, you don't need to buy anything else. the kits come with the spacers and longer studs.

Those numbers are backwards I think, daystar 2.5/1.5 is what I have and cornfed makes a 3"/2". The front is typically bigger than the rear to reduce the rake (nose down look) of the 4th gen.

You should look into swapping out your shocks and coils for FJ coils and bilsteins with possibly the toytec 1/2" top out spacer. There's a thread on here with all the guys who have done it and taken measurements for the FJ swap. Check the suspension page for ark swamp riders sticky. Good luck!

Thanks, but i already looked at spacers and i dont want them. the t4r wouldnt have any more clearance because they just lift the body. and you'd just be stretching out other components farther than they should be stretched like the gear selector and the wishbone suspension in the front. Thats why I want to do an actual suspension lift. and where I'm at; 4wd isnt really needed on the trails. besides, Ive already taken it up and down 30+ degree hills with 3 feet of snow and ice on the roads over in tennessee.

No they don't lift just the body. They essentially make your factory suspension "taller" by increasing the length of the strut assembly yet not increasing the length of the spring. It will give you more clearance but not more suspension travel. Make sense? And they have nothing at all to do with the gear selector. Sounds like you're thinking of a body lift.

oh yeah, i was thinking of a body lift. :ybrick: okay, ill check out the spacers. Thanks!

You got it man. Good luck. Spacer lift is a good starting point to see what exactly what you want to do with the truck. I've about outgrown my spacer lift even though it's paired up with fj stuff. I'm going to ditch it soon and go with OME stuff.
