question about lifts....im a noob

Sorry for the noob question, but I would ultimately love to have like a real nice lift on my o4 sr5 t4r......I know toytec sells the 3" coilovers, but what are my other options? How much custom fab work is involved in the install? What else is out there? Thanks in advance all!!!!

For the most part, there is no custom fab work involved with installing coilovers. What is your goal with your lift? Looks? Off road performance and if so what kind?

The normal options are 1) spacers (the popular types include Cornfed and Daystar and these are available in 1 inch up to about 3 inches), 2) OME (Old Man Emu, its not an adjustable coilover, but a replacement for spring and shock), and 3) coilovers (Icon, Saw, Toytec are some examples of these).

I have Fox and those (along with King) are pretty much the top-of-the-line coilovers available for 4Runners, but they are definitely overkill for most and their remote reservoirs are unnecessary unless you do prolonged high speed runs. What your ultimate goal with the truck will really influence the type of lift that would be best.

Okay, I plan on going more snow off roading and I will most likely find myself in mud over rocks or sand. The looks aspect is cool but certainly not on the top of my list..... My goal would be this; knowing I can go point blank into most off road scenarios and be perfectly fine. I live in CT so we do get snow and there are some good mud trails around I know.

I think going point blank into most off road scenarios as you describe them would focus more on having good tires about anything else. As for a good lift, I would look into OME, many members run them and it seems to be a great value lift.
