Question about mounting front shield to skid plate

This is about the plastic shield that covers the gap between the front bumper and the front skid plate on a 2010 Trail. (I don't know exactly what that is called, so my search attempts were mostly fruitless.)
Where this plastic piece mounts to the skid plate, the two outer bolts were sheared off and there was nothing in the center hole. I got the sheared bolts out and will replace them. But the center hole in the skid plate has no threads - it's just a hole, about 10mm in diameter.
So what goes in there? Some kind of pop-up nut like on the radiator shield, but bigger?

I think you're right in that it's a plastic pop fastener, but I can't completely remember.

It's been held in place by nothing but the three front bolts for some time now... Just getting the two bolts in the back corners will probably be enough, but I might as well do it right while I'm under there.

I can confirm it's a plastic pushpin like pictured. Most auto parts stores will have a rack of similar fasteners you can pick from in packs of 2-20. Just take your plastic filler plate with you match up the diameter to something close.

Another option that might work more easily is those metal clips that provide something for a screw to grip. If you can find one of those to fit the skid plate you can use a screw and washer through the center hole of the plastic filler plate. The type of clip I'm talking about is the same kind used to anchor the front corners of the filler plate to to the plastic pieces up near the radiator.

The center rear anchor probably isn't really needed, so you might also just leave it empty.

"Extruded U-nuts" - that's the other option I was wondering about. If it was really important, that's probably the way I'd go. But it sounds like it's not, so the push-clip is probably easier to deal with. I have an adverse relationship with those U-nuts, after taking off the front bumper to install a hitch receiver... those things were the biggest PITA of the entire process.
