Question about my 2001 SR5

Some of you have seen the photo of my 2001 that I just bought. Im trying to find out all I can about it. What I would like to know is , what is the differance between a SR5 and the "Sports ". Whenever I look online for a rear bumper , it says "without Sports ". I dont have a clue about it. Thanks

hey JustAnotherT4R how did u wire your backup lights?

i have some burned out light, so i bought some new ones but they arnt quite right so i was thinking about making them backup lights, or just more lights for, well light.

The "Sport" Edition and the "Limited" come with color matched bumpers so those bumpers probably come primed for paint. The SR5 comes with chrome bumpers.

A few other random differences. I have a 2001 SR% which has the chrome bumpers. IIRC the sport editions in 2001 definitely had the painted bumpers and I think they also had slightly different rims, a metallic trim inside (mine is black), and the hood scoop. I think the sport was only available in a couple of colors like black, green and silver.

It sounds to me that you must have a regualr SR5 model and not a Sport Edition if you do not have a scoop or silver trim inside. 2001 and 2002 Sport Editions and Limited shared the same wheel design, 5 spoke with somewhat of an indentation in the middle of each spoke, and were more "rounded" than 99-00 Highlander and Limited rims. Sport Editions also came in a really really nice red and also a purple-ish blue that you don't see to many of.

The sport and SR5 rims were very close looking. The only reason I remember they were different that my neighbor had the sport and I had the SR5 and parked them next to each other in the driveways and the differences stood out. I am still very glad I got the SR5 because of chrome bumpers - really low maintenance.

Oops, meant to include SR5 models too. Some had the split 3 spoke wheels too on the SR5's

I've never seen the split three spokes on an 02 SR5. Thank goodness mine didn't come with those lol

I finally got a chance to post updated photos. The first owner ran over a piece of metal on the road and cracked the grill , headlight and damaged the front bumper. As you can see , he put on the wrong replacement parts . I have new parts ordered and after getting them painted will put them on. Also , I took off the Brush-bar he had installed. I will be selling it cheap if anyone wants to buy It. It's only about 3 Mos. old

I would reconsider keeping that front bumper. It is a little hard to tell but if it is chrome I think it is a much better choice than painted. Bugs and rocks do not affect the chrome. However it does look a little odd with a painted rear bumper.

Just bought a 2001 sr5 and can see from outside that there are fog lights or so they seem but I can

I would take the opposite stand on the bumper. My 00 had the chrome and my 02 has the painted, all in all the painted is easier to maintain and looks better over the years. Toyota uses terrible crome and eventually it will rust, if you keep the paint waxed it will last a lot longer though it may chip a little.

Painted bumpers are easier to touch up than a chrome bumper and with my off road trips my bumpers do have a few little rashes but they are holding up pretty well.

Well, I went ahead and changed out the rear to chrome...BUT...I kept the painted rear and I have a front that just needs to be painted green. Im putting them up in the attic along with the running boards ..just in case I later change my mind. The bumpers are aftermarket , and if I keep them polished, they may be ok. I live here in south Louisiana A.K.A. Katrinaville, and we have a big problem with Lovebugs ect. If they splater on the paint, the acid will eat the paint fast unless you wash it right away...as in everyday sometimes. This is what it looks like with the new chrome rear
