Question about my spare

Hi all.

I have the bridgestone dueler h/t 265/60/18 tires and one of the has a small heavy duty staple stuck in between tread. Its not giving me any problems. I'm thinking of moving that tire to my spare space and using the spare as the permanent tire. The spare has never been part of the tire rotation so the tread is fairly new. The tread ware with the staple in it has 3mm outside, 6mm center and 4mm inside left. So basically would putting the spare as permanent mess up anything in my Runner due to the tread depth differences?

thanks much!

Get the staple out and get it patched from the inside. Running a different sized spare for a short slow ride should be fine. I wouldn't crank off 350miles at 75mph on a different sized spare so it really depends on how far away from civilization you get IMHO.

If you did have to go far and fast put the spare on a front wheel and run in 2wd.

I thought the spare tires were the same size as the rest? I know it is on my 4Runner, but then again mine came with 17's.

Thanks CJ3Flyr.. even if the spare is a few mm of more tread?
A few mm should be fine. You're chasing 275/65/18's with a 265/60/18 spare, right? What's most important is the O.D. As I suggested earlier you should be fine especially with the spare on the front and in 2wd.

I just double checked it and EH007 is correct that my spare is the exact same size as the rest of my tires and rims. I think what I was most worry about is that the spare tire is brand new, never been used, which has more mm of tread then the current 4. I thought it was bad doing so for long drives or in my case using it as a permanent tire now. Thanks again!
