Question about rust+rain.

So, about a week ago I got my exhuast done on my T4R. They did a shoddy job, and today I had them fix it. Looks much better, however I became concerned when I saw a bunch of surface rust already forming but only on ONE side. There was a shoddy weld on that side, which I think was the culprit of some kind of oxidation which, along with heavy rain all week, caused the surface rust. They fixed the weld.
Does anyone think this is something to be worried about:



Also, how do other peoples frames/axles look in comparison to mine rust wise? The cr has spend the past 10 years in my family one way or another, and has gone through alot of Connecticut winters.

I won't worry about the exhaust having surface rust on it. It will only get worse being in the lovely salt spreading state of CT. I'm sure the muffler or the weld joint will rust before the pipe with completely rust. Those pipes have a type of coating on them from manufacturer, maybe they cleaned that one off and the rain just started to do it's thing with bare metal.
Looks like the pipe has been sitting around a while.

Remember for ever gallon of gas you burn, about a gallon of water is produced from the exhaust. That's why the muffler usually rots from the inside out.

My 01 frame looks very similar to yours.

Yeah, I here that. I'm sure it was something stupid on their part. The pipe was purchased by me at napa, and it was one 10' piece of pipe, thats why I was so freaked out by the whole thing. I'll probably throw some black heat-paint on the tailpipes up to just before the tips anyway, for cosmetic reasons.

here are some pics of mine I live in RI. I have replaced my entire exhaust system. to prevent rust on the out side of it I surface treated the pipes and muffler and then sprayed them with VHT high temp ceramic paint (few coats) to get rid of the rust on the frame and axle and under body I used a wire brushes on the end of a drill and went crazy took a few days. Ater that I cleaned the surface and painted it with Rust-Oleum Rust converter once again a few coats then end results so far have been great will post pics when done.

Yours doesnt look that bad. The back axle has alot of black still on it. Mine looks like 410toys. I just found out ago that my frame rusted through on the inside rail next to the muffler.

funny you should say that just had mine replace last week 70,000 miles both sides

The sad thing is that those are pics of a vehicle in GREAT shape. You should see some of the rust buckets from 1995-2006 one can see up here in NS. Your pictures are like from another planet.

Huh. I put some rustoleum rust converter all around the back where the spare tire should have been, and it has all fallen off and rusted where it used to be. I will have to grind it off and put POR-15 on it.

The POR-15 seems great so far, but takes alot prep

Rusty is not what you call it. Damn that new liquid c**p they've been putting down in the winter here in CT is killing everything on the road a lot quicker then just plain salt!!
