Question about tire/wheel combo

Its come time to purchase new tires for my 4Runner and I've also been thinking about buying new rims to replace the stock ones. The rims I have in mind are Outlaw II's but I'm not sure what size rim I should buy. They offer 3 different sizes, ranging from 15x7 through 15x10.

I'm driving a 1997 4Runner with a stock lift, so I'm going with the 15 inch rim so i can squeeze a larger tire under the car, but I can't find any resource to tell me what the max size is for the rim itself. I do plan on eventually lifting the truck, but as of right now the budget is stretched thin.

As for the tires, I really have nothing in particular in mind. However, I did find one picture of a 1994 4Runner running Outlaw II's with BFG 33x12.5x15's on stock suspension, and liked how the setup looked.

My question is, will that wheel/tire combo fit on a stock 96 4Runner?

If not, what other tire could you guys suggest that I could fit under there?

I cant help you but I've always loved Outlaw II's even with all the bling crap out those are classic wheels and I like the fact they are clearcoated and clean up easy .

Are you sure that guy is on stock suspension. Looks like he's got at least a 3" lift in that pic. Anyway, you won't be able to fit 33's under a stock suspension. No way. You need a lift.

It says that he is on stock suspension. The only things that may cause that truck to look lifted are 1) No running boards and, 2) 2nd Gen (Not too sure about this one)

The rims I am looking at buying are 15 inch, whereas the stock rims are 16's. What's the max tire size you can fit on the stock rims? I heard 275's, or around 32's with a stock suspension...or am i completely off my rocker?

Hmm, I actually just found his profile on Yotatech and it does say he's on stock suspension. Wonder how he fit 33's on there?

The max tire size for stock suspension on 3rd Gens are 265/75/16's. Any larger and you will get some rubbing.

Hmmmmmm.....I was at Sears today and there was a 4Runner getting new tires. The guy was installing 285 R16's on his car, and they fit, barely. He said he was going to have to cut some off the running boards in order for it to be rub free, but other then the tires looked like they fit.

I'm going to be using 15 inch rims in place of the stock 16 inch rims, so does that mean I could hypothetically fit 295's on there?

Go ahead and try it, if you'd like. I have no idea how that guy fit 33's on his stock suspension 4Runner. But I guarantee that he will rub when he goes over a bump and probably at full-lock, too.

But think logically. If 285's on stock suspension were possible, you'd see a lot more guys on this forum with them on. I can't recall a single person with that set up.
