Question about VSC- Do all 4WD models have it?

The reason I ask is if I push it, I get no light what so ever advising wether its on or off.

When I place the truck in 4H a green light with the chassis image blinks and an amber chassis light blinks with an "x" in the center of the image. I thought this amber light is the center diff. indicator light. The center diff. light ( amber one) goes out after a few seconds.

I have tried pushing the VSC button located on the left of the steering wheel in both 4H, 4Lo, and 2WD and I get no light. I do see the light for a second or two just as I'm starting the truck just as the manuel says it supposed to. It just seems I can't turn it OFF or ON. Am I doing something wrong? The truck is an 05 SR5 4runner. Do all 4WD models have the multi-function 4WD w/ the VSC option? I'm thinking I don't have it.

VSC is standard for your model so quit worrying. i don't believe there is a button specifically for VSC - some turn VSC off by engaging the center diff lock "X" but mostly it's not what you want.

What I'm saying is the button on the left side of the dash does absolutely nothing. I can't turn it off even if I wanted to. The manual tells you you have the option to turn it on or off when needed. My question is how do I turn it off or on.

Apparently when I hit the button I'm supposed to get a light telling me its off, I press it again to engage it, but nothing happens either way:confused:

The 4wd 4th Gen have a diff lock button. Once the diff lock is engaged VSC is turned off and a light should go on your instrument panel. I believe the 04 or 05s got an additional buttin to turn of rol over sensing for the side airbages. My 03 with side and curtain bags do not have this button.

Yup, 05's with curtain air bags have a button labeled "RSCA OFF" to disable the bags.

There is no "VSC" on/off button on any 4wd 4rth gen. Only the diff lock button, which turns off VSC only when the center diff is locked.

Yes,all 4wd have VSC

Standard feature for all Toyota vehicles with the 4 channel anti-lock brake system I think. In the 4runner, it can only be "deactivated" by locking the center differential using the center diff lock button (left side on dash). This is basically if you are travelling off-road.

A new feature that has been mentioned is the ability to turn off the side airbags with button. This is because off-road you may drive on a camber that will tip the vehicle to such an extent that the sensor might think it needs to deploy the side airbags.

If you were to tip this much on-road, it usually will mean you are rolling, so the side airbags should be active (they probably are on by default each time you turn on the vehicle ignition, owners of this system please correct me if I'm wrong).

Alright, how do you lock and unlock the center diff. then? Because that button on the left does nothing.

you need to be stopped. press the button.... wait till the flashing light goes solid.... VSC=off, Diff=locked. do not drive on the roads/highway like this.

That what I was doing, but I wasn't getting any light telling me VSC OFF

I placed it in 4H waited for the green 4WD indicator light to go solid, then pressed the center diff. lock button on the left of the steering wheel. I got nothing. I tried it in 4L also.

Sorry for the repeated posts but I don't think something is working properly. Shouldn't I get something telling me the the Diff. is locked?

I fixed it. I popped the center diff. lock button out from the dash after I removed the access plate beneath it. When I removed the plate I saw a 4 or 5 prong female plug just hanging there. When I popped out the button I could see it needed that plug. Plugged it in and now everything works like it should.

Question is how did it get like that. I remember this working when I first got the truck. The truck only has 1300 miles on it. It did go to the dealer and get an alarm installed, maybe they did it.

Anyways, thanks for the help.

Sorry I couldn't help you out earlier, I have no idea how the 4WD models function. Glad you got it fixed.

Yeah, it sounds like something the dealer might've done when installing the alarm. They usually use one of the blanks there for the alarm LED and probably forgot to plug that back in.
